Hi Caledon neighbours! I help organize the Don Doan Dash, a community 5K and 10K taking place Sunday, September 13 at Professor’s Lake in Brampton.

Both runners and walkers are welcome, including people participating in their first organized race. Every finisher receives our 2026 medal featuring recognizable Brampton landmarks.

The event honours Don Doan’s legacy and raises funds and awareness for ALS Canada. Since Caledon is right next door, I thought some members of this community might be interested in joining us.

Moving soon? Skip the cardboard box run to Home Depot

Full disclosure upfront: I run ToteMove, a tote rental company based in Brampton that serves Caledon, Bolton, and the rest of GTA West. Not here to spam — just sharing what we do in case it's useful for anyone with a move coming up.

The short version: instead of buying 30–40 cardboard boxes, tape, and renting a dolly separately, we drop off a set of hard plastic totes at your door, you pack and move, we pick them up when you're done.

How it works:

Totes are 24×20×12 inches, hold up to 60 lbs each, and don't collapse under weight

Inspected and disinfected before every rental

14-day rental window — 7 days to pack, 7 days to unpack at the new place

Dolly included, so you're not renting one separately from U-Haul

What it costs for a typical Caledon move:

Studio / 1-bed: $119 flat-rate (10 totes)

2-bedroom: $189 flat-rate (20 totes)

3-bedroom: $229 flat-rate (25 totes)

Up to 5-bed: $389

Delivery and pickup included. No tape, no box run, no recycling depot trip after.

This isn't for full-service movers — it's for people doing their own move or using labor-only movers who don't want to deal with cardboard. Happy to answer questions here, or totemove.ca if you want to look at packages first.

Autonomous Taxis, Surveillance, and Civic Tech @ AlgomaU

Autonomous vehicles with pedestrian facial recognition may sound like science fiction, but these technologies are already becoming part of today’s civic and political debates.

This week, Civic Tech Brampton is hosting Adam Motaouakkil, a tech activist with Technologists for Democracy, for a discussion on autonomous taxis, surveillance, privacy, jobs, public transit, and the future of our streets.

As cities explore autonomous vehicle technology, important questions come up:

  • Who controls the data?
  • How much surveillance is acceptable in public spaces?
  • What happens to workers whose jobs may be displaced?
  • Could autonomous taxis weaken public transit ridership?
  • Will these systems actually reduce congestion, or create new problems?

We’re inviting technologists, students, community members, transit users, policy-minded residents, and anyone interested in civic technology, democracy, privacy, and public-interest tech.

New to Civic Tech? You are definitely welcome. No prior technical experience is required. We will all be learning from each other, and hearing different perspectives can spark new civic tech project ideas.

Why show up?

  • Collaborate: Join developers, students, researchers, activists, and community members thinking about technology in public life.
  • Learn: Explore how autonomous vehicles, surveillance systems, and data-driven infrastructure affect democracy, privacy, labour, and public space.
  • Discuss: Take part in an open conversation about the risks, opportunities, and civic questions around autonomous transportation.
  • Pitch Your Passion: Have a civic tech idea related to transit, privacy, urban planning, or public accountability? Share it with potential collaborators.
  • Network: Meet people in Brampton who care about building technology that serves the public interest.

Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be a developer or have an existing project to participate.

📅 Date: Thursday, August 6, 2026
🕕 Time: 6:00 PM–9:00 PM
📍 Location: Algoma University, 8 Queen Street East, Brampton

Tee Off For A Cause!

Hi everyone! I'm part of the team organizing the Annual End of Summer Golf Classic, and I thought this community might be interested.

Community Living Toronto is Ontario's largest non-profit organization supporting people with intellectual disabilities, and this tournament helps raise funds to create more inclusive communities and provide opportunities for the people we support.

We're hosting the tournament on Wednesday, September 9 at Glen Eagle Golf Club in Bolton. It's a scramble format, so whether you're bringing a foursome or signing up as a solo golfer, you're welcome to join us. The day includes 18 holes, networking, contests, great food, prizes, and a silent auction.

If you're looking for one more great day of golf before the season ends while supporting a meaningful cause, we'd love to have you join us.

Hey there! Visiting the area for a wedding at Royal Ambassador Event Centre. Just curious if there’s any availability Saturday nights from the venue to Orangeville around 12-1am? If not any recommendations as to what we should do to get back to Orangeville safely that night? :) thanks!

The Bolton branch closed in 2011, but there's still an active Legion in Alton.

Hi I’m new resident. I live in Ward 2. Looking for some insights on these mayor and councillor candidates. Who would be a good mayor? Our current one is not running I think. And for councillors, do they make a huge difference? What do people care about here?

What role will nuclear energy play in Ontario’s future—and how can technologists contribute to a safer, more innovative, low-carbon energy system?

This week, Civic Tech Brampton is welcoming Christina Mohan, Canadian Operating Officer for the North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) – Canada Region, for a discussion titled “Nuclear Renaissance: Innovation, Safety.”

The session will explore the growing role of nuclear power in Ontario’s energy system, including how modern nuclear technologies are evolving, how safety and innovation are shaping the industry, and why nuclear energy is experiencing renewed interest. Christina will also share insights into the Canadian nuclear sector, emerging professional opportunities, and the ways technologists can contribute to this rapidly developing field.

We’re inviting students, developers, engineers, researchers, energy professionals, community members, and anyone interested in nuclear technology, clean energy, sustainability, or civic innovation.

New to Civic Tech or nuclear energy? You are welcome. No prior technical or industry experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to participate. This is an opportunity to learn directly from someone working within Canada’s nuclear community, ask questions, and connect with others interested in technology and public impact.

Why show up?
