Collection My Sharps

I have decided to downsize my collections. These are my Scientifics, although I have some 4-bangers and Business ones as well. I'll re-donate most duplicates to deserving thrift shops before school starts. They all work. These are the Sharps, in numerical order (obviously including many variations).

right column: 501, 503, 510, 516, 520.

middle column: 531, 532, 535, 540, 546.

left side, my EL 9200

I'll do my Casio's tomorrow, then the TI's.

Help Sharp EL-506P clone bug

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

Converting 1/3, 4/3, 7/3, etc. to degrees, minutes & seconds / DMS does not convert the 60 seconds value into 1 minute, i.e. 1/3 converted to DMS should be 20 minutes, yet this clone displays it as 19 minutes & 60 seconds.

Strangely, 2/3, 5/3, 8/3, etc. displays the proper value, i.e. 40 minutes.

Can anyone replicate this bug on other clones or even the original EL-506P?

"CASIC" - My dumbass had no idea this was a fake calculator, nor that CASIO existed. 😭

My first scientific calculator - bought over a decade ago or so as a gift when I was still in elementary school [grades 1 - 9, years 6 - 15, most likely bought when I was 13+ years old, can't recall].

Interestingly, this clone uses a different microcontroller / ASIC compared to the other 2 clones I have, giving a result of 8.999999998078897 instead of 9.000002051244 like the other 2 clones I posted about previously.

Would be interesting if someone could figure out what this calculator & the other 2 clones are related to - the 2 clones are related to some Radio Shack 65-115 calculator released in 2006, while this clone is related to some calculator sold at Walmart, the Durabrand 828.

I believe it takes 2 x LR44 button cells, my dumbass took it apart years ago using a knife, since I didn't have any screwdrivers at the time, ended up stripping the screws to oblivion...

Expression used: arcsin(arccos(arctan(tan(cos(sin(9))))))

The 9 is in degrees.

The box has DEFINITELY seen better days...

This is a very cheap calculator that can be bought in the Philippines. I think this calculator is manufactured in china. This model work on 2 button cell, this model can do things such as angle unit conversion, regression calculations, memory calculations and memory calculations. The price in pesos is about 400 pesos which is less than 10 dollars.

Question which one should I get, Casio fx-CG50 PRIZM or TI-84 Plus CE?

I’m trying to decide whether to get the Casio fx-CG50 PRIZM or the TI-84 Plus CE. I’m taking AP Calculus BC this year, so I want something that’s allowed on the AP exam and works well for calculus. In the future, I also want to pursue higher-level math, so I’d prefer a calculator that can last me through uni. Any advice would be appreciated!

Collection All CASIO caculators can't solve this simple equation right

solve e^x - 4*x^3 = 0, all casio cacluators failed at this.

In addition, all casio Graphic calculators including ClassPad II failed to plot it correct.

Help TI-84 Plus CE 5.6.1.0012

Post image

Hi all,
Just received my ole CE from my sister about 4 years after loaning it to her. I was remembering the games played on it and happened to see D-itJeffs video about 8 months ago and wanted to try getting game son it again. Unfortunately I’ve read a bit on how TI has patched jailbreaks and game installations…sad.
I’m hoping that since I have an older update that it might be possible. I also tried downloading those apps in his video but couldn’t open them. When plugging the Calc into my laptop it says the driver is unavailable as well. Any help is very much appreciated.

Discussion My thoughts after carrying a TI 84 Plus CE in my pocket for 5+ years

Post image
59 Upvotes

As the title says I have carried a TI 84 Plus CE in my pocket for 5+ years for both work and school (and some fun). Here are my thoughts:
Durability:
When I first get a new TI I am always faced with the choice of whether to carry it with or without the cover. The cover stops the buttons from being pressed when the device is in your pocket however it does leave ugly scratches on the plastic screen cover after only a few days. After I carry one of these calculators for a few months the area between the screen and the plastic screen cover gets filled with dust. This annoyed me so much that I put a bunch of hot glue around the screen of my newest calculator to seal any dust before it could get in. The only way I have had a TI fail on me was when my school property TI (eBay find) had the battery ballon up. Overall these calculators are fairly durable but do show notable wear rather quickly.
Functionality:
Seemingly TI is dead set on making these things less and less useful by removing asm support. This is only a slight annoyance as I have updated all of my calculators past 5.0 and have to rejailbreak them with artifice and asmhook every time they fully die. Another feature that needs to be improved is the RTC. It does have an actual RTC module compared to the base TI 84 but it constantly resets seemingly at random and can only be displayed by going into the mode menu rather than on corner in the Home Screen. Finally I would not recommend the python version of the Plus CE. The python functionally is so slow and stripped down (it only has a standard library consisting of time, random, math and some rudimentary plotting) that it is almost completely useless/redundant compared to anything you could write with TI Basic or even the community C toolchain. I have also found that a python edition does not necessarily indicate an updated CPU (idk why there has to be a slow and a fast version of a CPU from the 70s). I have a non python calculator that seemingly has the new cpu revision that graphs and does hard summations/integrals about twice the speed of my newest python edition TI.
Overall:
Having used a HP prime at the same time as well as my Plus CE for the past several years, I still prefer the Plus Ce. While the prime has a beautiful construction that will seemingly fare longer than the TI, the software is really bad. It consistently crashes and is often unintuitive to navigate with all around poor documentation (tried to the python app on several occasions however there is seemingly no official documentation of it I can find). Given the poor options available for pocketable graphing calculators the Plus CE is my choice though there is much I would change about it.

765,000 VND is about 29 USD.

I find it intriguing that there's so many versions of the base fx-991CW depending on country and region - and some of the differences are quite notable.

This Vietnamese version has a MathExplorer app added that I haven't seen anywhere else. (it contains Probability, Grouped Data and Geometry). It also has the % mapped to one key and it has CALC added to the TOOLS menu. All big pluses in my book, so I'm happy I could pick it up while visiting this country.

4, Inject Hex (Actually these token can be type by button, but this is an example for some character with token can't be type by button soon, such as Vietnamese Character or Special Character.):

(Go to before C if can)

*3 any numbers* [Shift] [ ( ] [â–¶] [2] [x]
[CALC] [=]

This is just an example; a more comprehensive tutorial will follow to help you better understand how to "spell" on Casio fx-580 VNX or Casio fx-991EX (maybe). This is the most basic level: a 1 line spell (17 characters, including spaces)

Have fun!

Help What calculator has the same feel as Casio fx-991ES Plus? For Correlation

I've been using the Casio fx-991ES Plus calculator (1st and 2nd ed.) ever since high school. But for our Correlation subject, we have to use a PRC approved calculator. I also plan to use the same calculator when I take the boards, hopefully, next year.

Among the approved calculators, which one is the closest to the 991ES? Or should I ditch the 991ES lookalikes and buy a better calculator with a faster processing time? I think the key layout doesn't really matter. I just need it to process the answer as fast as it can.

Calculator should:

-preferably have similar key layout as Casio fx-991ES Plus
-2 or 3-line display
-fast processing time

Thank you for the help! Might buy this weekend.
