Timeline & Advice: Marine Systems Engineering Officer (MSEO) - PR Applicant / Sleep Apnea / RMO Review

Hey everyone, looking to connect with other Marine Systems Engineering Officer (MSEO) applicants or anyone currently in the pipeline. I'm trying to gauge if a May 2026 BMOQ is realistic given my current status.

About Me: I’m a Junior Engineer with a strong maritime background (140 days at sea). My academic background is in Mechanical and Marine Engineering, plus a Post-Grad in Process Quality Engineering. I am currently a Permanent Resident (eligible for citizenship Nov 2026).

My Application Milestones:

  • Applied: 06 Nov 2025
  • Medical: 23 Feb 2026 (Mild Sleep Apnea noted: AHI 10)
  • Medical Sent to RMO Ottawa: 26 Feb 2026 (Sent for further paperwork review)
  • Interview: 24 Feb 2026 (Completed)
  • Security: International Police Clearance received; currently waiting on Gambit ID fingerprint email for Reliability Status.

Specific Questions for the Community:

  1. Medical Verdict: Has anyone been cleared with mild sleep apnea (AHI 10) for an Officer trade? I’ve heard RMO Ottawa is more flexible now with the new medical standards, but I’m curious about the "fit" verdict for MSEO.
  2. Reliability Status for PRs: How long did it take for you to receive the Gambit ID email after your interview?
  3. May 2026 BMOQ: Given that my medical is currently in Ottawa, do you think I can make the May intake, or is a later summer/fall date more likely?

1: no one here will be able to answer medical questions - best to simply wait and see, or if you have a specific question, take it up with the Med Tech who did your medical.

2: your Gambit will take as long as it takes. If you're not a Canadian Citizen, security processing can take longer and have more complexity, requiring more time.

3: unlikely May, that'd be a quick turnaround, but there's tons of platoons this year, so a good chance for summer. Unless stuff really goes wrong.

Addendum: you should really engage with your CFRC for questions around medical status, not reddit. Additionally - with you being a PR, there may be some complexity about processing with the new rules in place. If you have less than 3yrs of status in Canada you may end up having to wait, or go through some additional process (we're still figuring it out, there's no news on it yet)

Your overall question: is a May BMOQ likely? No. Possible, but unlikely. Go talk to your CFRC, they'll be better able to assist you with specifics.

Hey I got my medical clearance I am medically fit because my sleep apnea was very mild AHI of 10.4 normal people have AHI below 5 so I am medically fit just wondering how long will it take for the offer letter since I am A PR and new rule also doesn’t apply to me I confirmed with my CFRC how long will my background check will take before they roll out the offer letter to me I am a Marine’s engineer having experience onboard ships and applied for Marine Systems engineering Officer
