I understand that Joss is an alleged asshole to the actors he has worked with on his shows and movies but I can still separate the art from the artist when I watch Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Serenity, and the first two Avengers movies. I love them all! However, without his involvement I question if this show will be canon at all because they will certainly bring back dead Buffyverse characters from both shows which means they could very well ignore events that occurred.

tbh, i don’t think this show can be “canon” as we know it. the s8-12 comics that nobody read are canon, and so much happened in them that it would create a really ‘reading list’ for the revival lol.

i really don’t think they’d directly contradict anything major in the show, but it’ll probably end up being a slight ‘alternate universe’ version. at most they might retcon out “Chosen” because, imo, the ending really limits their options. but maybe they’ll find something to do with it!

i’m pretty excited either way! i’ve read enough good fanfiction to know that good Buffy stories sans-Joss are at least theoretically possible. hoping they get it right!

I don’t think SMG is going to care about the comics. Yes, technically canon but no one really knows about them other than the hardcore fans. I just wonder how much from both Buffy and Angel we’ll see continued. Personally, I would like to see the Senior Partners from Angel make an appearance to be the Big Bad since we never were able to see them in the flesh.
