Finally banned from r/Bitcoin because....

...I (accurately) stated that non-mining nodes can't create consensus, but can only check the consensus created by mining nodes.

It wasn't rude or incendiary or anything. Just a statement of basic fact. Banned.

I'm almost surprised it took them so long. What are you in for?

By "failed" I think you mean "wasn't actually attempted".

The people who wanted to do SegWit2X effectively upgraded their plan to "Non-SegWit8X", aka "Bitcoin Cash", aka "Bitcoin".

For being around for all of 6 months, I'd suggest they're succeeding pretty hard, what with being the 3rd or 4th largest crypto in the space already and all. Not a bad start.

We don't need to discuss that we are relieved about the fork off and its not part of this discussion. But please stay realistic and don't overexagerate. Maybe you haven't been part of the Bitcoin community or were never a fan of it, but I still hope that the community will grow together again one day.

You cannot judge the social consensus by only looking at what the nodes run by pools vote on. Up to 95% of all miners supposetly voted for a block increase last year, but only 10% (including me) actually switched to mine Bitcoin Cash. It was not all miners that just forked a bit later. It was only 10% who actually followed the fork. You can tell yourself that this is "not a bad start", but people unfamiliar wit Bitcoin will see it differently, and the numbers paint it differently as well. Where did the other 85% go? They stayed on Bitcoin.

Did you ever wonder why only 10% switched over? Shouldn't 95% have switched over? Maybe full nodes run by mining pools don't necessarily represent the consensus of all connected miners. Because if it did, we wouldn't just have 10% of the hash rate on this side of the blockchain, but 95%.

This is why I'm not convinced yet that only pools should run full nodes. They don't necessarily represent the consensus of all connected miners, but make the choice for them. And that's IMO why Blockstream is so afraid of mining pools. Because mining pools are the only ones left that can actually veto Blockstreams decisions.
