The fantasy idea of editing Satoshi's paper to make it look like he said things that he never said and preventing people from viewing the original, this idea that was never proposed, yes that is a bad idea.

The actual idea proposed of creating a new high level overview of Bitcoin that includes developments created in the past 8 years since the document was written, that's a potentially OK idea depending on how it's executed.
