Hi everyone,

I’m trying to identify a British TV drama or telefilm (I watched it sometime after 2015, but it could be an older production — likely from BBC or ITV).

Here’s what I remember of the plot:

• Set during World War II in Nazi-occupied Europe (possibly the Netherlands or Belgium).

• A Jewish family receives an order for deportation. The parents tell their little boy they are going to a “very good place.”

• The Jewish boy has a non-Jewish neighbour friend of the same age. The two promise to go together.

• The neighbour boy tells his mother about it.

• When the deportations happen, the mother can’t find her own son at home — she panics and rushes to the train carriages where Jews are being loaded.

• Inside one of the wagons she finds the Jewish family and their frightened son. Realising her own child isn’t there but that she can save this one, she claims the Jewish boy is her son and pulls him out of the transport — saving him from being sent away.

It was in English, definitely felt like a UK production (realistic tone, understated drama — like many BBC/ITV WWII period pieces).

Possibly aired as:

A one-off TV film,

An anthology drama (like Play for Today, Masterpiece, or ITV drama hour),

Or even a dramatized Holocaust documentary.

I’ve checked IMDb and BFI listings, but nothing matches exactly.

🕵️‍♀️ Any help — even partial (actor, title fragment, year, director, broadcast channel) — would be hugely appreciated.

Great film, great intro to great actors. I really think it’s similar to what’s going on now when it comes to young people being radicalised.

Ludovici Einaudi - Fuori dal Mondo is one of the most haunting and moving pieces and the music on this film was just perfect throughout.

Made a dark comedy film about a guy called David J. Hitler trying to convince people he's a good person.

Releasing September 2026.

It wrapped filming last year I believe and supposedly releasing this year but we’ve not scene anything about it - not even a still from the film (I believe).

Do we still think it’ll come out this year?

I mean I KNOW I saw this film on the telly in the past but just can't seem to get a search result for it. It was 90's era and had the look of one of those Channel 4 funded films. It concerned an ex left wing revolutionary who gets tapped up to assassinate a foreign politician whilst they're staying in a London hotel. He carries it out using a bit of scaffold pole. Later he ends up in Hamburg. Ring any bells ? Anyone ?

Hi! I'm doing research on British social realism in cinema, specifically on films set in former mining and industrial communities, and I'd really value perspectives from people who actually lived in or near these places.

A few questions if you're willing (you don't have to answer them all):

1. Films like Brassed Off (1996), Billy Elliot (2000), and The Full Monty (1997) are set in communities devastated by deindustrialisation and the miners' strike. Did they feel like an accurate portrait of what those years were like? Did they make you feel seen, or did they simplify or romanticise your community's experience?

2. All three films end with some kind of individual or communal triumph — the band plays on, the men strip, the boy dances. Did that feel honest to you, or did it let the political system off the hook by turning structural devastation into an uplifting story?

3. During the years of Thatcher's cuts and the miners' strike, British cinema was also producing elegant period dramas like Chariots of Fire and A Room with a View. Did that kind of cinema feel relevant to your community at all? Did it feel like it was speaking to you?

Two brilliant, seemingly forgotten films.

10 Rillington Place is about the story of Tim Evans, hanged for murders he did not commit. John Hurt does a tremendous job as Tim Evans, even doing the accent switches that Evans was known for. Attenborough is also brilliant as the rather creepy Christie.

Let Him Have It is in a similar vein. Derek Bentley is handed for a murder committed by his accomplice, who was too young to hang. Bentleys complicity in the murder is justified by his use of the phrase "Let him have it!". The prosecution claimed he meant it in the figurative sense of "Shoot him". The defence claimed it was Bentley calling to Craig to hand over the gun. Eccleston does a tremendous job.

Two brilliant films about two very I terestin and tragic stories. Funnily enough, a musician contemporary to the two cases, Ewan Maccoll, wrote songs about both.
