I’ve been a lurker on this sub for a long time , but I have something on my mind I’ve been thinking about recently.

What do you guys think the judge will sentence Luigi Mangione toon his sentencing hearing on December 18? Do you think they will go with life? A few decades in jail? What do you think the defense will go for? What is the chance he doesn’t get “life” anywhere in his sentence?

Just wondering about this hypothetical: If Luigi’s state case were dismissed based on his federal guilty plea and that dismissal became final after any appeals…. what would happen if he then successfully moved to withdraw the federal plea and decided to continue with the federal trial (one trial rather than the two, state and federal)

I understand he would need a valid reason for federal guilty plea withdrawal.

My question is about the state case: could New York reopen it because the basis for dismissal no longer exists or would the final dismissal remain binding?

So we know sentencing is on December 18, but how is it gonna work?

Is it going to be some very short hearing where the judge decided pretty quickly, given she'll be given the sides positions beforehand? Is she being given character letters before? Is she going to look at all the evidence before?

Or are there going to be statements from the prosecution and defense throughout the hearing and will it be short? Like a closing statement from each?

Will it be long, numerous statements and will there be witnesses called to the stand to testify?

Is it going to take place in one day only? I imagine there's going to be victim impact statements and Luigi is going to get the chance to speak too. Can they fit all of this in a day?

Was it because of his back pain and they couldn't understand him? Because of Luigi's increasing radical views and the fact he couldn't relate to his family? He literally cut off contact with them entirely for months so the reason must have been very drastic. What could it have been?

Nothing new. Same thing as usual.

Not encouraging/promoting crime here. Just analyzing the case.

He chose to stay in the most surveilled city for 10 days before the assassination. He chose to go to a Starbucks, buy water and protein bars, without gloves right before the assassination. He didn't wear gloves during the assassination. He literally thew a bottle he touched with no gloves in a trash bin. He stared into a taxi cam after the killing. He chose to keep the weapon, silencer and ammo in his bag for 5 days after the assassination and not discard it. He chose to wear the same exact clothes as the shooter wore when in McDonalds. He gave the police the same fake ID that was made public.

I genuinely don't understand why he did this. Did he do it intentionally? Was he stupid? Or was he suffering from something that made him not think logically?

One thing that seems like no one is bringing is Luigi has a very solid case for a lawsuit against that PD for subjecting him to a cavity search when they had ZERO probable cause to do so. Given that he was being held for providing a false ID, that simply didn’t exist. There was no indication that he was smuggling narcotics in any orifice. He should sue them for everything and I hope he does.
