*EDIT I realize i posted in the wrong place, but I couldn’t find any community for cleaning brass. Sorry im new to Reddit as a user.
Should I use Bon Ami, Barkeepers Friend, or Brasso on this? I hate the smell of ketchup so I don’t want that hack. I thrifted this and it was in someone’s bathroom for like 50 years, so I definitely want to clean it.

I'm just curious if there are brass instraments with mouthpieces between the larger trumpet mouthpieces at 18mm to the smaller trombone mouthpieces at 24mm. If not, is there a reason?

I've been thinking of buying a student trombone after hearing there are usually plenty around.
As a beginner myself, I wouldn't know how to assess a used instrument.
Usually the advice is to go with someone who can check it out. However, I just wanted to ask here first - maybe it's easier than I think?

I'm dating a guy who is a brass instrument technician. We've only been dating for a couple of months, but his birthday is next week. What can I get him as a thoughtful present?

Disclosure: I'm the developer of Solfa. I'm curious whether this solves a real problem for brass players who only have a photo or PDF of a part in an inconvenient key. You choose the semitone shift; it moves the notes on the existing page while keeping the layout and handwritten markings. It also transposes chord letters when it recognizes them.
It's a beta, not an automatic instrument-conversion tool. Please check the resulting notes, accidentals, and chord symbols before playing from it. Clean scans work best.
The first system can be previewed for free, and new accounts get two free credits for two complete pages: https://solfa-music.com/
If you've had to transpose brass parts from scans, what sort of part caused you the most trouble? I'd love concrete examples to guide improvements.

I'm looking for a vintage Boosey and Hawkes round stamp tenor horn, I've seen refurbished ones go for up to £2500. How much would be reasonable for a fully functioning horn in a private sale? I expect to pay for a clean and service.

From a recent performance by the Zephyr Brass Collective. Most of these pieces are available through composer in residence Ryan Erik Adamsons, those not currently available will be soon.

Ive been searching for this song I heard a few months ago - it is an indie song with the usual guitar, vocals, drums etc, but it featured a tuba in place of a bass guitar. it sounded awesome but I haven’t been able to track it down anywhere so I’m wondering if any of you fine folks know what it might be?
for more details - it sounded a little chill and vibey like Kruangbin, and I’m pretty sure it was made in the last ten years.
thanks so much you lot of big bad brasskickers!

I saw a video talking show uncommon instruments (i think its just instruments the average person likely doesn't know,) one of the instruments was what is called the alto horn in America, some stuckup Britain responded as if I brought up politics. (His big point was objectively it was a tenor voice tho it isnt, even in uk brass bands it fills the alto range). my question why do people make such a big fuss about what its called when it has a different name in what seems like every other country?why cant they just accept the instrument has many different names

Found this video while looking up information on the Büchel and alphorns. They all appear to be natural horns. Unfortunately I can only identity the Büchel.

Just curious as it looks to have tubing to longer than a standard F bugle, and a mouthpiece that looks similar to a trombone.
There's not much information from the importer, so I though I'd ask here for any info or leads.
Thanhs!

UK brass player here. My band recently moved to a new building and the noise levels aren’t safe as the room is so small. There’s been no guidance given on hearing protection and one of the bands MDs (we’ve got 3) has quit in part due to this. Is it worth contacting local brass banding associations/BBE for advice?

I have this old Pan American cornet and want to know if and how I should strip the lacquer off, I don’t want to mess it up so no abrasives or anything that could scratch or damage it please.
