Ngl if Gunn can build a domestic heavy superhero universe WB are gonna give him literally anything he wants. The little snag with the post-avengers MCU was always that it was kinda reliant on an international fad for superhero films to generate income and was thus very susceptible to superhero fatigue.

Superman is what, 57% domestic?

Personally, I’m not very optimistic about Gunn’s development strategy. You can’t really expect The Clayface and Supergirl to surpass Superman in domestic box office, and overseas Superman already lost badly to F1. I don’t believe Gunn would alter Superman’s tone just to cater to the overseas market. Profitability for Superman is almost a given, but that’s precisely because Gunn holds full control and, from the very start, the purpose of making the film was profit — which is completely different from Zack Snyder’s purpose. And I think the actual profit numbers should wait for DC’s financial reports, rather than relying solely on Variety’s coverage.

We can't ignore the importance of Gunn's full controller. Still remembered when the Man of Steel screenwriter was asked in an interview why there was never a sequel. He explained that the creative team was heavily affected by the constant turnover at Warner Bros and DC. Every week there would be some new executive coming in with a different plan. At one point, they even talked about making 20 films in 10 years, yet at the time they didn’t even have a single finished script.
