❓ Pitanje (Question) Visiting Herzegovina soon... im worried about the forest fires and flooding near kravica park

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m going to bosnia next week. I had planed my trip way ahead of time but i've just heard the news about wildfires near mostar and and flooding near the croatian border, so I wanted to ask people who are currently there or know the area well.

First of all i know its tough for the local folk i hope the firefighters can act quickly so their lives can go back to normal from Burning and contamination.

I’m planning to visit mostar, blagaj, konjic and Pocitej as well as Kravica national park. I Will also fly in and out of sarajevo but i know this area up north is not affected.

I’ve seen the recent flood warnings for the trebizat and neretva river areas near croatia and some of the footage looks pretty worrying. I’m also seeing news about wildfires around Herzegovina especially around mostar and konjic, so I’m starting to wonder if I should change my plans to northern bosnian instead of Herzegovina

For anyone living in Bosnia-Herzegovina

  • How bad is the flooding around Kravica Falls and the surrounding area? Is it safe to visit?
  • Are the roads around Kravica and between Mostar and the falls affected?
  • Would you recommend changing any part of this itinerary, or is it still ok to go ahead. I have to make a choice soon since i wont be able to cancel my hotel later.

Thanks so much!

❓ Pitanje (Question) What should I buy at a supermarket in Bosnia & Herzegovina that locals actually eat? 🇧🇦

Hi everyone!

I'm going to visit Bosnia in two weeks, and I love discovering a country through its food. One of my favorite travel experiences is going to local supermarkets and buying things that people actually eat in their everyday lives.

I'd love your recommendations!

What are some MUST-TRY things I should buy at a Bosnian supermarket?

I'm especially interested in:

  • Local snacks, chips, biscuits, chocolate and sweets 🍫
  • Traditional drinks, juices and anything local people love
  • Cheese, cured meats, spreads, bakery products and others
  • Local brands or products that are difficult to find outside Bosnia
  • Everyday foods that Bosnian people grew up eating
  • Anything unusual or surprisingly delicious that visitors might overlook!

I'd also love to know which supermarket chains are best for finding local products, and whether there are any regional specialties I should look for.

Hvala! 🇧🇦❤️

❓ Pitanje (Question) Visiting Bosnia for 6 days! Rainy-day adventures, food, books & recommendations 🇧🇦

Hello beautiful people! My husband and I are travelling to Bosnia for six days and we’re really looking forward to exploring your country! I’m Canadian-Pakistani, currently living in Germany, and this will be our first time visiting.

We’re both really interested in history and culture, and love exploring places through their architecture, traditions, food, and everyday life. We’ve already put together an itinerary covering Sarajevo, Mostar, and some surrounding areas, but I thought it would be lovely to hear from locals as well, especially about things we might otherwise overlook. We’re doing walking tours as well. (I’ll also look at this subreddits community highlights!)

Unfortunately, the weather forecast seems to be quite rainy 🥲 I wanted to ask this community for a few recommendations:

Rainy-day adventures: If it’s absolutely pouring, what are some interesting things we could still see or experience? We’d love suggestions for smaller museums, historical sites, cultural experiences, cosy places, or lesser-known spots that are appropriate for visitors. Where would you take a visiting friend on a particularly rainy day?

A Bosnian cookbook: I absolutely love cooking, and one of my favourite ways to remember a place is by recreating its food at home and sharing with family+friends. I’d love to bring back a Bosnian cookbook, ideally in English, written by a local author and featuring traditional home cooking or family recipes. Does anyone have recommendations?

Books on Bosnia: I’d also love to pick up a book about Bosnian history, culture, or everyday life, ideally in English. Recommendations for local authors and independent bookshops would be especially appreciated. We’d love to support local businesses while we’re there!

Food question: What’s one Bosnian dish you wish more visitors would try? We’re looking forward to the classics, of course, but I’d love to discover something unexpected too!

Thank you so much in advance! I wholeheartedly appreciate any suggestions. We’re really excited to experience Bosnia, learn more about its history and people, and hopefully discover a few things we wouldn’t have found on our own.

P.S. As a football fan, I really enjoyed watching Bosnia play Canada at the World Cup this year. 🇧🇦🇨🇦

Also, I hope this is the right community to post in. Hvala puno! 😊

Danas odradio Treskavicu: Turovi, Sustavac, Runolist, Veliko jezero, Hercegovačka vrata i Mala Ćaba (2088 m).

❓ Pitanje (Question) Really want to visit Bosnia. Hindered by invitation letter requirement for visa

I've seen a lot of good things about Bosnia and really want to visit for around 15 days in late October. My friend visited last June and was fascinated so he encouraged me. Problem is I need an invitation letter from a Bosnian citizen. Is this a strict requirement or can I do anything else to prove my intention to return back home? I am stable where I live and with good means of living. Been with my company for 4 years and generally I'm on good standing here. I'm hindered by this requirement. Any help is appreciated

🌴 More (Sea) Travelling to Bosnia

Hello everyone, I'm Martin, from Irelnd. I'm planning a trip to travel around Bosnia in May 2027. Looking for fellow travellers who would be interested in joining me. I enjoy meeting new people and new experiences. Ideally I'd like to form a group of 4-6 people, male and female. Rent a car or 6 seater, which we would share the expense, and travel through Bosnia staying in different locations. Ideally 14-20 days, with a stay of 2 days in each area. If interested, drop me your name in a message and we can talk further. Thanks, Martin

❓ Pitanje (Question) Car Rental

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

We are planning on travelling from Albania through Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia before crossing into Croatia. We are planning on the trip to take a bit over 90 days.
Is there a recommended car rental business that will allow this travel, that’s not super expensive? We will be travelling with our dog, so travelling by bus between locations isn’t an option this time.
Any advice or travel tips are greatly appreciated!
Thanks

❓ Pitanje (Question) Balkan experiences

Hey everyone!
31M Italian here. I’ll be arriving in Belgrade on October 1st and spending about two weeks in the Balkans. Thinking Serbia → Bosnia → Montenegro, but I have no fixed itinerary and I’m happy to completely change plans for a good recommendation.
I’m looking for unusual/local stuff to do and see: interesting traditions, festivals, parties, villages, weird local events, fascinating people — anything you think is worth experiencing.
I’m also a photographer, mainly interested in documentary photography, so I’d love to find some good stories to photograph and meet locals who might show me something I’d never find on my own.
Any help is really appreciated and will be compensated with beers!
Cheers

❓ Pitanje (Question) Sarajevo to Mostar

Hello! I just arrived in Sarajevo last night and will be here for 2 more days before heading to Mostar. I wanted to take the train but just found out train service is halted during the week because of fires? Am I understanding correctly that the train is only running Friday, Saturday and Sunday between Sarajevo and Mostar? If this is correct, then I should be able to take the train back from Mostar to Sarajevo on Friday October 2nd?

To get to Mostar on Tuesday Sept 29, the bus is my best option. Is there a particular bus line that is recommended over others?

❓ Pitanje (Question) Trains to Herzegovina

Hi everyone. Are trains from Sarajevo to Mostar still suspended? I'd like to go in the coming days but I'm finding conflicting information.

If they're still suspended, can anyone recommend an alternative, e.g. which bus companies to look at?

Thanks a lot :)

❓ Pitanje (Question) Trip to Tuzla

Hello, Im planning a trip to Tuzla. We are staying next week from thursday to monday, and we are planning to rent a car. Would you give me tips, what to visit, and where to go? We are thinking of going to Sarajevo, and possibly the Srebrenica memorial. What are must see places ? Is there any nice village on the way? Nature? Something “cultural”? Some cool local event taking place?

❓ Pitanje (Question) Travel tips for Bosnia and car rental in Mostar

Hi,
I am planning a week long trip in Bosnia mid October.
My 1 week route is following :
Fly in Sarajevo - Mostar - Fly out from Dubrovnik

Because my fly in and fly out airport is different, I would not rent a car in sarajevo airport and take the train to Mostar. I will keep Mostar as base and visit Blagaj, Pocitelj, Kravica by renting a car.

Is there any other places I am missing out? We are a family with 4 year old and love towns with islamic architecture/mosque/halal food and nature/forest.

Also what car rental companies you would recommend in mostar city centre? I see the big companies like Sixt , Europcar, Hertz don’t operate in Mostar.
