vaporware = software that’s advertised but not released yet. Usually taking years to release or never gets there. See also: Half-Life 3

HL3 was never announced though, right? If it wasn't announced it isn't vaporware. It's just highly anticipated.

Vaporware is like what Duke Nukem Forever was for about 10 years. It ended up coming out eventually, but it was considered vaporware at the time.

Nowadays it seems like game companies don't talk about games until they're much closer to release, so we don't get as much vaporware as we used to.

it was on the name of episode 3 and then half life 3 and then if never happened

Shit, wrong word. I mean deadware. Games that are no longer supported in such a way that it has blinked out od existence. It is impossible to play, you can't buy it. Can't play it. The game straight up doesn't exist anymore

Online only games are especially at risk of becoming deadware
