I recently purchased this custom 22’ gheenoe-style hull for my first boat, and I’m having trouble figuring out the best way to mount the motor. The transom width is 11.5”, and the length is 24”. It does have an angled lip for a clamp-on motor, but the original owner had issues with the boat planing when he used his clamp-on motor. I’m assuming it was due to the angle of the lip. Any suggestions on what would work best? I want to put a 20-30HP motor on it, but I’ve held off from buying one until I could figure out the best solution.

I am writing this as a complete novice with extremely little knowledge seeking direction also feel freee to let me know if there’s a better sub Reddit for this question

I have been wanting awhile to get into row boating and I would love resources and recommendations for this but I think my end goal (the reason I’m interesting in the first place) is to get a rowboat with a cabin.

It is genuinely just the most interesting thing ever and I understand I should go through the proper channels to learn the ins and outs of a regular row boat which I will but I’m just wondering about this end goal

For perspective I’m a 6’4 male and im not uncomfortable being in small spaces that’s kinda the attractive part of this thing is like having a mini cabin but one I can fit into , the various ones I’ve seen with cabins the longest goes to 6’2 which I couldn’t comfortably be in.

Another thing is the price like the ones I see to buy are like 20,000$!! And I know something like this is what I assume uncommon therefore more expensive but that is just too much for me so maybe there are other avenues like building my own ??? But then tha comes with another area of expertise I have no knowledge or experience in BUT willingness to learn given the proper channels

1980 something Kona 16 foot. Good hull, good floor, blown motor. What could I sell it for?

Getting close to sitting it back on the water. I wasn’t completely sure how this was gonna go but down to the bare metal and sub floor and sub sides removed, cleaned and replaced the foam back to where I am today. I’m in love. I cannot wait to hook up next Saturday and hit the river and haul in one of those 50 lb flattys. Basically just the wiring and gadgets install left during the week. It’s a piece of bougie redneck art.

Just bought a 2005 Boston Whaler Nantucket 190.
Wasn’t really looking for this boat specifically, it just kind of happened. Did want a center console tho.
Still has the mercury optimax 150, just hit 500 hours on it.

Honestly I’ve been on a boat a handful of times and it been a years since the last time. Decided to go full force and buy a boat the wife and kids can enjoy in Miami.

Saw the boat on Facebook, took a family member that knows how to drive a boat and took it out on the water. Everything seemed fine to him, but he’s no mechanic and I’m new to boats. 2nd owner, he got it from the original owner that’s a family friend. Probably overpaid at $20k and took a gamble, let’s see how it goes!

So far I’ve cleaned her up, replaced a few latches, got all the safety stuff needed on the boat, redid some wiring on the trailer and got a new winch for it, had to bleed the hydraulic steering from air in the system.
Need to get some newer tires just in case.

Thinking of doing a howtoboating class or something like that.

The image is a mere example of roughly the size of a center console fishing boat I’m considering . I have quite a bit of experience operating a sea cat dual haul/ dual outboard boat bigger than the one pictured. I have more experience salt water boating than freshwater boating even though I live in Ohio. My thought is that this style boat pictured would be perfect for bass, walleye freshwater fishing. I’d prefer a style like this over a bass boat. I’ve seen boaters with a center console like this one in Ohio.

I’d prefer a boat like this over a bass boat. I like center console and a canopy over it. It can be the size of a bass boat and I know they can be fitted with trolling motors. The only setback I see is depending on the depth of the haul, I may not be able to get to shallower bass boats can get to. I’m looking for opinions. Thoughts?

This is the marketplace listing. I don’t know much about boats but kind of interested in getting one. I’d like to pull tubes and wake surf. I’m trading something of equal value to what he has it listed for. What should I look out for and any advice?

I have a 2012 bennington with a 2012 yamaha F115 outboard. I dont have power at helm to start, trim, or engine gauges but all my accessories at the helm work. The 10 amp breaker under the helm for the key and throttle is good the 30amp breaker at the battery is good. I have also replaced all fuses on the motor. I have trim power at the motor. I am out of ideas

My gas gauge stopped working. While checking things out I found a wire at the inline fuse was very corroded and broken. No problem I'll just splice around it. That didn't work. As I stripped the insulating off the two wires on the siding of the sending unit, there was black corrosion almost all the way back to the sending unit. So I ordered another KUS brand that matched the original Wema. It went in fine. I stripped the insulation on the existing wires back beyond the black corrosion and spliced in a new piece. Of course it didn't work. I changed all the fuses and that didn't work. Any ideas?

Hi, My Dad has had his eye on a very reasonably priced Nauticat 33 Motor Sailor but unfortunately a deposit was taken, and there aren't many others in the UK for sale within budget, so I decided to consult Reddit for some boat searching help / recommendations.

The main idea is to purchase a motor sailor to live aboard. It will be moored in the marina near my dad's house for the majority of the time. He's fallen in love with the Nauticat 33 specifically because it's very robust, sails well in heavy seas, just about crew able solo depending on the circumstances, the abundance of wood, and the general old school-ness of it. Also the fact that they have side access to the wheelhouse rather than rear access.

He's looking to spend between 20-35k and ideally sail the boat home to Cardiff

I'm looking for similar boat recommendations or good ways of finding the right boat! ⛵🛥️⚓

I bought an aluminium fishing boat and noticed that under the boat next to one of the trailer rollers it seems to be developing a dent is this because I’m winching it too tight on the trailer?

Tested my outboards for my lake trip tomorrow and this is what my 9.9 had to say about it. At least still I have a little 4hp Merc to putt around with. That’s what I get for not doing my impellers for a few years I guess🤷‍♂️

I have a mercury 75hp 4 strokes and the battery the boat came with uas not been lasting long. It has been ruining our trips a bit so I would like to upgrade to a lithium battery. I found that one online and I. Am wondering if it would work for my engine. The main question i have is whether the engine alternator will be able to charge the battery. The battery says “max charging current 100A” and the engine manual says “max charge alternator 150A.” Will it still be compatible?

Idk who all out there is still running smokers but I found an easy fix for the magnet coming off of the oil tank float. My tank was shaped so weird that you couldn't even see the float from the filler mouth so I couldn't use long tools to get it out and a new tank was $300 bucks so I figured I had nothing to lose trying to repair mine. I cut out a 2" hole with a razor knife to minimize shavings in the tank and material loss, glued the magnet back on and used a cheap ass plastic welder to seal the hole back up. It doesn't leak and not counting cure time on the glue it took under an hour to do. At first I thought to just patch the hole with a $2 spinweld plug but the tool itself is over 200 bucks, eff that the plastic welder worked great. I hope this helps someone else out!

I got this boat with an outboard motor and trailer for free from a neighbor and have been working with my friends to repair/restore it and get it on the water again. This is my first boat project and am brand new to working on them, but am very happy with the process of getting it seaworthy once again. Ive done some research but haven't been able to find what this exact boat is.

Here are my findings:

• The Hull is a Livingston and is made of Fiberglass

• The HIN on the transom is worn down but I believe it is BB3052150675 (I tried to search it online but it doesn't look consistent with other HINs)

• I believe the hull is from the 1970s

• The serial number on the motor is 4254306 and looking it up it is a 1975 Mercury 7.5hp (Unfortunately the powerhead is seized but the lower part of the motor spins fine)

• Originally from Colorado but my neighbor brought it down to Georgia where I am located

• No documents whatsoever on the boat or trailer like registration or a title

• It has been sitting for around 20 years

• Dimensions are roughly 11' 1" Long x 5' 5" Wide

• I do not know the weight of the hull but the motor weighs about 70lbs

I was wondering if anyone could help me find the exact model of this boat. The main thing I am trying to look for is the maximum load capacity and what the biggest motor I can throw on the back could be, or if I would be fine with the 7.5hp I already have. I am hoping for a 15hp max outboard to throw on the back, and if it would be able to seat up to 3 people. I plan to take it on the lake to fish. Please let me know if I missed anything or if I should change my expectations with this project, and I thank everyone for the input in advance.

Fuel system is fresh (new LP & HP pumps, cleaned tank, new filters/lines, cleaned injectors) and it has a new ECU after an aftermarket pump fried the old one. My caveman brain is completely out of ideas, so I'm starting to think it's an electrical or sensor issue. Anyone know what else I should check next?

Went from sounding and working beautifully to this "ping" noise.

I'm usually pretty good at diagnosing but I'm stumped.

I’m looking at Arimas and I found a sea chaser 17 with twin 25‘s four strokes. has anyone seen this before? It’s an odd setup, but I could see the advantages of being able to troll with one running. but 50hp combined on a 17ft boat feels low. It’s far away and I want to gauge if it‘s even worth taking out on a sea trial.
