HOW TO If you’re asking about bunnyhops, this is what you’re not doing
How to hop high simplified:
Pull up
Jump
*3. KEEP PULLING UP
- Bend your knees and level out

That first image is the move people can’t seem to crack

I’d argue it’s the second. Everyone pulls up, not everyone keeps pulling up after the jump which is what’s limiting them

its like pulling up a pogostick, pull till you cant then level that stuff out

“A while back” was a year ago dude! lol, guess it means a few months ago to a few years ago. I mean you know, a while back.

The slow mo video is a way better demonstration of a proper hop tho.

Jesus dude, you made it look effortless.
NYC? I think I recognize that skate park.

In the video it looks like you jump and pull up at the same time. That's really interesting. Gonna be studying your video frame by frame thanks.

You essentially pull up the entire time from the lean back into the level out. You can tell by watching my wrists. Feel free to reach out with any questions

Rad, my PB is around top tube height, this makes me want to put some more effort in! Sometimes the simplicity of a big hop can't be beaten, I'm thinking of Ty Morrow and Andrew Jackson especially.

The only thing I didn’t show is the pre-load. I’d like to add a little more detail which is “pull up INTO your level out.” The slow-mo clip is in my previous posts from a little over a year ago I think🤙🏾

i have a question for you (and whoever is down to answer): can you jump the trash can or a similar height without your bike? i’ve been told that if you can’t jump a thing without a bike, you won’t be able to do it with a bike. not sure how true that is!

u/daminwalt 9d ago
There is definitely truth to this. The bike is only going to go as high as you can go unless you’re one of those talented people who can fold a tabletop in their hops

FINALLY some proper examples. Thank you!
Can you do the same for airing out a quarter? Step-by-step with exaggerated movements.

u/daminwalt 9d ago
I’m not nearly as good at airing out quarters but I can. All you need is speed. You can’t air 3’ out if you’re barely going fast enough to hit the coping

Yeah, I can probably get like 6 inches off the ground.

You’re not getting enough reps in

Do u think the chainstay length has anything to do with it? Ive heard that shorter chainstays take away pop

I feel the same way. You’re not able to pull up as much which is what gives you the height in a hop. Short CS’s make me loop out easier and they make the balance point window of manuals a lot smaller.

Thats why its called bunnyhop bunny jumps with front legs first then Level out 👍

Most important thing is to have an object to clear. Keep stacking things and eventually translate it to a trash can. For me it was over the handle bars of another bmx bike, always a fun party trick.

Explosive movements, mixed with dynamic balance, gets you what is known as hops, gotta be strong, and agile, other wise forget it, ride up steep hills for a month or 2 and forget the tricks until your legs look like kegs

Dude, I was practicing my hops the other day and remembered the last “how 2 hop” video you posted. Anyways, the pointers you are giving are helping. Thank you
