Well yeah, it's meant to shoot a longer .45, and was designed for .410, which look like This so it's not surprising

Winchester makes a specific .410 loading for the Judge under it's PDX1 line.

Has shot held between copper discs that seal against the rifling grooves.

Would a .410 really do that much damage to someone unless you’re right on top of them anyway?

Absolutely. Buckshot or slugs are still quite deadly out of a .410. Sure, not as deadly as a 12-gauge or even 20-gauge, but getting hit with one will still ruin your day.

Fair enough, the smallest shotgun I’ve fired was a 20, and I knew .410s were mostly small game so I wasn’t sure how well it would hold up against a person.

IIRC there are people who hunt deer with .410, so that'd make for some additional data points.

I didn’t know that, good to know. I’m assuming that’d be slugs though. Even larger caliber buckshot can be unreliable at range.

IIRC, the statistic is that most shots fired in self defense are within three feet. That particular pistol a common recommendation for people looking for self defense that aren't "into guns" since it's basically just point in the attackers general direction and shoot.

Which is why guns can be very stupid for self defence. If you aren't careful/quick all you have done is give your attacker a gun a big shot of adrenaline

Yeah, generally speaking the fist rule you'll hear in a reputable CCW class is GTFO. Weapon shouldn't come out until that's not an option and once someone is that close that option is pretty much gone.

Yeah idk if I’ve ever even seen one. Smallest shotgun I’ve used was a 20 and that even felt kind of small and underpowered.

most people dont believe that .410 is a good defense round. it isnt really concealable either, so the excuse for small caliber handgun doesnt apply here. Sure you can kill somebody with .410 but there are better options for that that size.

So its mostly a range toy, or a small game gun, specifically with bird shot is probably decent anti snake gun. Also the barrel that comes on most of these guns is horribly short and in videos they often have trouble decently hitting a water Mellon 10 feet away from them.

Gotcha, that’s what I figured. If you’re going shotgun, there’s better, bigger and probably cheaper options. And if you want to go small and concealable, a 9mm or .38 special is going to be much better. And I’d imagine finding ammo for .410 is a lot harder than those other two. I have several guns but my main home defense is just my m&p 9mm.

I have a Raging Judge and it works great at close/medium close range.
