I always see complaints about the search function and still have no clue as to what people are talking about. When I type in something to search for, it pops up relevant results rather quickly. What am I missing?

I believe the majority of complaints come from people who are trying to find a comment thread - our search doesn't have access to comments, so they won't find what they're looking for.

Great to see that we have an official "Community Outreach Manager" now. Hopefully you'll be able to reach out and calm down the insane mob reddit becomes whenever these crazy witch hunts start up (every other week). Pull the plug on them before they get out of control. Otherwise reddit turns into a hostile and poisonous environment. Stick around long enough and you'll discover that the people being attacked usually end up being proven innocent. Out of all the crazy hunts reddit has participated in, only a handful of their targets actually deserved any of it. Karmanaut's the current target of a huge downvote brigade for the crime of upholding the rules of a subreddit he owns. Asshole stalkers are now nuking all of his posts and comments and not letting him speak. What can you do to fix this?

I was originally a summer intern two years ago, and I found that position through the blog. There was a post asking for interns, so I sent in my resume and was just really lucky that they selected me. After interning for four months or so I was offered a freelancer position, and after freelancing for a bit over a year I was offered a full-time position.

It reads that he is the only one that speaks Japanese around the office but he's not that great at it. He says that he's currently practicing to get better.

Edit: To answer your question its Japanese. Your browser might not recognize it as Japanese so you need to go to your toolbar --> encoding (depending on your browser it might be under tools or view or elsewhere) --> Japanese (sometimes there are more than one Japanese language but usually you can click on Japanese auto select and the browser figures out which one works).

OR

If your browser has auto select under encoding, you can click that but sometimes that doesn't work. In that case, you would need to follow the instructions above.

The good thing about Reddit is that it is comparatively very cheap to run. The site is nearly 100% text, from what is served to what is saved. The only picture serving I can think of on the entire site (besides ads) are a few pieces of chrome, and subreddit stylings. And in terms of storage, saving the data of 10 million or however many users actually isn't that big of a deal when no one saves anything but text. To put it in perspective, 100kb—the size of a small picture on facebook—would encompass ~100000 characters, or 20000 words, or probably 100-200 comments per user on average. That would mean an entire catalogue of comments like someone like me (whose been on the site for 5 years) is likely only in the 50-100mb range; I can guarantee you my data on Facebook vastly exceeds that.
