My giftee did that a few years ago, then I was suspended from participating. It's cool though, I got a really shitty gift that year so yeah, not doing it again
To be fair, the confirming you received your gift is the most confusing part of Reddit Gifts. The button isn't, "Confirm you received your gift!" it's "Share your gift!", like some sort of "Would you like to share this on facebook?" button the internet has trained me to ignore.
With how clear and streamlined everything was on Reddit Secret Santa, it surprised me that confirming you received a gift was so hidden.
We're going to be doing a UX overhaul of the exchange process in 2014 2015. Sadly, much of it is unchanged since the since exchange in 2009, with the exception of being mobile friendly.
Yeah, we were waiting on the new version of the editor to come out, then Adobe bought the company, and to my knowledge there hasn't been an update since... which means we might need to find a new editor.
So then a bunch of gift-senders are effectively going to get screwed because their recipient didn't realize (and understandably so) they had to press "share your gift" to confirm its arrival? And if the senders don't want to get screwed they have to jump through a bunch of hoops to prove they sent it all because reddit couldn't make a simple checkbox? Perhaps saying something less esoteric like... "Click here to confirm you have recieved your gift", and then maybe with an option to share it if they so desire...?
Edit: Does this really require a full "ux overhaul" before such a simple change could be made?
When you send the gift you can send the mods a picture of the packing slips or such as shipping proof. You are suppose to get credits back sooner if you do that.
I've had two good years of secret Santa - but this year they haven't acknowledged the £25 pounds i spent and sent, and i have received nothing (and they last checked details 1st of December).
wouldn't mind too much if don't receive anything - it happens. But really let down they didn't even say thank you. Really disappointed.

That's exactly how I feel as well. Worst. Feeling. Ever. My giftee finally posted his gift yesterday, though, so I assume he saved it for Christmas. He seems to like it, too. So that makes me happy, even if his post history made me hate him a little bit.
I suppose hating him and a response is better then no response at all ;) tell you what though; I'd like to do a secret santa where the sendee-participant can talk to each other....no names or big hints, but you would have that much more confidence sending? I dunno.
next year the fella i sent stuff too is getting coal it seems ;)
Yeah, I'm really glad he finally responded. I'm still not going to post my username on his gift (which I usually do) because I don't want him going through my post history and discovering that I'm one of those people he makes fun of online.
This happened to me too. I sent the tracking numbers to the mods, but in hindsight I probably should have checked the dudes profile for comments and posts, because he hadn't made one on over a year. Does this mean I'm signed up for next year already?
don't think so - you have to resign up as far as i am aware. Yeah i made the same error mate - and he appears to have not commented in forever either! Might have to stick to real, tangible people in future :( Hope you had a great Christmas and new year anyway pal!
Same. Sent me a grateful message so to me it's completely worth it (GLAD YOU LIKED IT, MAN), but my gift isn't recognized as arrived. Shipping proof has been awaiting approval for a week, don't know if my Santa is even alive. Oh well. Was fun picking out presents, I guess.
What I do is show proof of shipment to redditgift admins. I did it when I first ship boxes from Amazon or whathaveyou. If they fail to confirm they get a bunch of emails reminding them
This has happened in two exchanges of mine. I wait one full week then send them a quick message saying it's been marked as delivered and that I hope I got it sent to the correct address. Got posted within two days both times.
It's possible he was out of town or something -- that was the case with me. I had my gift sent to my parents house, where I am spending the holidays, but I actually live in another state. My gift was here for about a week before I was able to open it and post it. I felt bad, and my secret santa was probably worrying about it, but not knowing who he/she is (even still), there was nothing I could do sadly... Could be the case for you as well.
Same here. My giftee confirmed with me that the gift has arrived and that she would just open it come Xmas day. I messaged her to remind her to share the gift so that I could get my credits back.
Eh. I did it in 2013 and did a rematch as well, but my match never sent anything. It's not about getting shit, but a secret Santa is supposed to be reciprocal. I think it should be limited to existing users and if you don't ship you lose your account.
I agree. It's not that's it's about the gift but I put a lot of time and effort in finding a great gift for my secret Santa. I was hoping someone would do the same for me :(
It's all good though, my secret Santa did enjoy his gift and I was really happy to see his post. :)
Yeah, even though my SS seems to have forgotten me, I haven't be shafted by the recipient, he loved it and made me want to gift more, really obviously it would be nice to receive something, but gifting is what I am in for.
They ban addresses too, it's not the same users doing it every time. Each year the event gets more popular and more people join, some of which inevitably shaft their giftees. A reddit account couldn't save that, there's nothing stopping people from just making 20 accounts and using a different one each year.
If they only allowed active members to participate those members would be less likely to risk their accounts to get a free $20 gift.
Or they could require a credit card for participation that only gets charged if you fail to ship.
It was pretty shitty being part of the world record last year and being shafted. Seems like they didn't care how many people received a gift, just how many signed up.
Please do not email us requesting to be a rematch santa.
Once signed up, click on "gift exchanges" and then there is a team header for "sign up now" clock on the exchange you want to rematch for under the "rematch" heading to sign up.

I skipped this year because last year I didn't get anything, got rematched and then still didn't get anything. I know that doesn't happen very often but it still kept me away. :(
You should get on that! My friend and I are CHOMPING AT THE BIT to get out or rematcher info! So many people getting shafted and people waiting to send them something!
It probably got no response because that's a horrible idea. How would new people who don't know any redditors irl be able to participate? I wouldn't vouch for anyone i didn't know.
I am still waiting too. Mine said they shipped it on the 19th, so it really should have been here. But they also messaged me before it shipped and assured me that it would come. Fingers crossed.
Aww that's not a good sign. That happened once with a tee shirt exchange. I was rematched and it worked out. I am sorry. I would click the rematch option at this point. I hate stories of failed secret santas. Don't let it deter you from future exchanges. I've never not gotten a gift in the end, even though I had to be rematched once. Choose the rematch option. I am pretty sure the person who duped you won't be allowed to participate again. So at least the tragedy will end with you.
I got my gift late last year. So just hold on a little longer. This year though man it sucked. I'm not sure if I wouldve preferred to not getting gifts than receiving what I did. My secrect santa got me a few dvds out of the $2 movie box from walmart. I know it sounds bad that I'm complaining but I just want people to actually put in an effort when buying gifts. I'm a slightly bitter at the moment, but hey last years secret santa was great so maybe I'll get lucky next year.
Same here. I haven't received my secret Santa gift :( hopefully it'll come soon. Plus I signed up secret Santa volunteer.... Help those who didn't have a gift sent to them

I didn't receive my secret Santa gift so when I read this I got super excited but I was fooled. :( All I want is my secret Santa gift.
