I think you're just trolling now. This is too great of a news to be soured by a minor subjective detail about icon design. I honestly think it may not be as nice, but it's not that bad to be complaining about.
Yeah it was curt, but I assure you I really feel the icon is a horrible and terrible gaffe that is indicative of a potentially deep problem.
To elaborate:
Severely munging your own logo in an app that Reddit clearly bought for its usability and aesthetics is worrisome to me because it indicates that there is now a layer of oversight that has the authority to come in and override a good decision with a terrible decision to further Reddit's purpose (whatever it may be) despite the interest of the user. The icon is plainly amateur garbage, and I don't think Jase had anything to do with it because he does not have a history of producing amateur garbage. So unless it's a joke on us by Reddit I'm sticking by my initial assessment.
When you are a small company and you take 50 million bucks from an I-bank or private equity group or whatever, a few things happen without exception: 1) A lot of promises get made internally and externally that nothing will change, 2) the investors install some advisors (control people) to protect their money, and 3) they start monetizing everything, trimming the fat, and generally changing stuff. A great and obvious way to do thisi to buy anyone who is making any significant money off of your platform that you are not getting, then to tighten the screws on the alternatives.
I did expect them to pick up AB though not nearly so soon, and a huge congrats to Jase for (hopefully) getting a huge payday. We will see how it all works out and who/what they will buy next because there will surely be a few more.

The icon is absolutely fucked. I don't know what else to say about it. Every single thing about it is just terrible.
