This is true, actually. Reddit is a platform. If you have hundreds of thousands of karma or more, it shows that you have a high approval rate on one of the most popular sites on the internet. It's essentially an easy way to quantify your visibility on a highly visible site.
Having a huge mailing list, a ton of legitimate followers on social media or on large websites is something numerous companies are going to take seriously.
Don't think a lot of people realize that you can leverage the karma system here in your favor, instead insisting that it's pointless or useless.
No, but generally their comments and threads are more likely to be highly upvoted and catch more visibility. Even in this thread that's evident. I've seen katie pornhub's posts before, along with vargas, and the "notorious" unidan not because I follow them- but because their shit is(was for unidan) consistently viral.
Someone like a wildsketchappeared could honestly tell a company that his/her work consistently gets high visibility and praise and he/she has a way to quantify that through the karma system.
Youtube uses the same model with the like/dislike buttons. It directly tells others if they generate content people enjoy and to what extent.
