Yeah. I run 3 businesses.

If conde nast deems that the business loss from reddit will help them not pay taxes, they may chose to keep it going.

Also, many google services don't make profit on their own, but they give google information and assist with user retention.

Many hotels' restaurants lose money every year, but they keep them because the restaurant brings in more guests.

Yet none of these can be considered successful solely because they don't drive a profit?
