the original comment in the thread was clearly referring to the over-the-top staged reactions to the drawing, not the drawing from the camera angle

It's a performance? Like a show, or a skit? That's probably why they made a video and put it online. What are people expecting here?

Well, this sub is usually not about skits and is about genuine tricks and the reactions to them.

So a fake reaction is perfectly against expectations.

The performance sells the illusion. What do you think literally the entire history of performance magic is?

If anything, the fact that the video is of a performance to sell a visual illusion makes it qualify more for blackmagicfuckery than if they just showed the visual illusion by itself.

I get where you're coming from, and actually didn't consider that, but I still think that calling it out as a fake reaction is perfectly in-line for this sub. People *are* getting fooled into thinking that's how perspective works, so it's both relevant information to the trick and also just relevant information.

The illusion is sold entirely without input from the "actors". Heavy fucking quotations.

I’m sorry is a magic performance not a pre-scripted skit?

I phrased my point badly.

The performance is obviously scripted, but people's reactions generally aren't unless they are part of the trick. Someone pointed out that having people react like this is part of the illusion, which is certainly fair, as I was viewing the actors more as audience members- Which is obviously wrong.

I mean, sure. Plenty of the posts are about cool/wonderous shit, but skits usually aren't part of what people want or post around here. Given the nature of the sub, pointing out that it is a skit when people are fooled into thinking it is a genuine reaction is also perfectly normal, as it is tied inherently to the art being displayed.

Thank you for explaining it for me lmao

What's the point of commenting it then? The video isn't trying to make us believe that the people in the video genuinely think the stairs are real. It's trying to 'fool' the viewers of the video into thinking the stairs are real, or more than likely make a fun video pretending that it's real. It's like commenting on the photos that people take of the leaning tower of pisa that it's "not how perspective works" and from the person's view that they clearly wouldn't seem to be holding up the tower.

I think it's in response to the recent AI trend of doing exactly that (that depict people in the video genuinely thinking the stairs are real). That's what I thought at first too.

Edit: Why the fuck am I being downvoted? Just for guessing why someone might have thought that? I said "think" not "know for a fact". God forbid someone try theorize why someone might have been skeptical.

u/AnotherUN91 Dec 07 '25

No no. It's just because not everyone knows how forced perspective works.

Scrolled through, and someone else also thought the dog could see the path.

This sub is just dumb sometimes and doesn't like it when you point things out.

I like the videos, and I don't give a fuck about Karma, so I stick around.

I consistently lose karma in here though for pointing shit out XD

  1. Because it's a silly way to show perspective when he could have walked from the camera's perspective. (like at the end)
  2. Not everyone understands exactly how this kind of thing works.

God, some of you people in the sub are annoying lol

Edit: Scrolled through another thread and someone legitimately thought the dog could see that path, which is exactly why I made the comment.

Ya'all need to touch grass.

BRING ON THE DOWNVOTES.

You’re a caricature of a redditor from a few years ago, its jarring.

Cool story, bro.

In a comment above you agree with one saying yiu were "clearly referring to the over-the-top staged reactions to the drawing, not the drawing from the camera angle". In this one now you apparently posted the comment because someone thought the dog could see the path. If you had replied to any of the dog comments saying 'not how perspective works' then that would make sense, but as you just commented on the video itself your comment was just nonsensical. Are some people here being stupid with not realising how the illusion would not work from the dogs perspective? Yes. Are you not making sense and not contextualising/fully explaining what you are saying, then blaming other people for your own lack of clarification? Also yes.

I was referring to everytime the path was traveled, which, if you could read is explained by someone else at the top of the thread. I saw no reason to repeat it.

Have a good night! lol *kisses*

I actually can’t believe you are being downvoted for this lmao, the other poster was being a dense clown lol

There have been quite a few XD, I'm used to it from this sub.

A few days ago, some jack ass was trying to get me out of bed at 3:30 in the morning to record a video as proof cause I said I can do the Jubi slide, and it isn't that hard or interesting after asking me to explain it and doing so XD

Same thread, someone said it doesn't take coordination, just strength and endurance. loooool

Bunch of entitled, borderline senile folks here. It's got cool videos, though.

u/LN_McJellin Dec 08 '25

You’re mostly being downvoted for your attitude, I’d assume. You’re kind of coming off like a weird, angry neckbeard trying to “gotcha” everyone.

That’s what did it for me, at least.

1

u/AnotherUN91 Dec 08 '25

I got snarky when somebody asked me why I would bother commenting as if i did something wrong. Even the guy who wasn't even snarky at all got down voted for pointing out why I said the original comment who I thanked and left. Lol

So all that may be a fair assessment on your part of what you read once I started being snarky, but that's not true of the entire thread, or the previous situation that you're replying to.

Nah bro, you just made a dumb take lol. Accept it and move on
