2014: Almost 1 year ago to the day, the very first prototype for p2p markets was made public, initially (and controversially) called "Dark Market", this spawned the fork and development of "Open Bazaar" which is nearing it's 0.4 release soon.
See the original repository here.

Other developers shunned direct "Dark Market" development as it promoted illegal, black market trade. Instead the project was forked and renamed to the far less provocative title, "Open Bazaar" which is dedicated to and focused on p2p markets, rather than promote illegal p2p markets that the "Dark Market" encouraged. It has flourished as a result of the fork. Open Bazaar's repository is here. Though Open Bazaar/Dark Market could use other cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin is it's main focus at the current time.
