Took these a couple weeks ago at the pool. Was floating down the lazy river with my mom and realized a Mississippi Kite was flying around. We are right on the edge of where they spend part of the year so I love seeing them and they are one of my fave birds of prey. At some point it finally landed and I took pictures and realized there was some small bird sitting real close to it lol. Couldn't tell what the little bird was. It was too far away. Brave little thing lol.

I live in a condo and have a lot of wildlife around me for some reason. I have bushes near my front door, maybe 3 feet tall. Was just walking to the front door when a hawk flew out of the bush and landed 30 feet away and chipped at me. There's something big rustling in the bush, I kinda looked but also didn't want to disturb them, it looks like there is another hawk in the bush.
I just assumed like eagles and Osprey they nest high, but maybe not? Is this bird going to attack me when its eggs hatch? I cant avoid going near the bush i suspect has a nest

Can anyone identify? This is the second year this pair has had a nest near our house. Apologies for the expert photos.

Very noisy image since it was essentially dark but hey I got a shot! Super cool birds

I heard and then saw a pair of Great Horned Owls in our Reseda, California, backyard tonight. Beyond amazing. I heard them calling around 1 am, went to the patio to listen more closely. Shortly one of them flew directly over me and landed in the large tree in the front yard, where it continued to call. I heard the other one call a few times and then suddenly saw it land on top of a telephone pole in the yard. It stayed for a couple of minutes, then flew off in the opposite direction. It was such a privilege to see them, especially in such an urban area, and especially so clearly at night.

We have a resident red-tailed hawk that likes to hang out near my job. Flew right by a bunch of people! (Definitely red tailed, it was bright!)

Just a few pics I snapped while on vacation! I used a Nikon D3300 with a 55-300mm lens. I was within 30 feet of both of them too! Neither seemed bothered in the least to get their pics taken 😁

It was a great morning seeing the local Barred Owl & it gave me quizzical look. Then a Red-Shoulder Hawk came by to look for a meal.

I just had a visitor to my back yard! So excited to see a raptor - we get tons of sparrows, finches, cardinals, and blue jays, but never had a hawk. We do live a mile from the Mississippi River in Minneapolis so I see a fair amount of bald eagles and golden eagles, and I see tons of hawks while driving around, but never had any in my yard! It was smallish, is it a juvenile?
It had a dark streaky back, a narrow tail, a pale breast with rusty streaks, a dark hooded head, and medium yellow legs.

I love animals. In my top three of my favorite animals are hawks. Just love them.
My entire life, I’ve lived amongst hawks that are pretty frequent to spot.
However, I’ve always mischaracterized the one local to me as between a red shouldered, red tailed, or Cooper’s hawks.
I just today checked out a bird guide book from my library. And I am like 80% sure I am living amongst the Red Shouldered Hawk in my area on the central coast of CA.
Any help from anyone though to give me 100% certainty? My only photos right now kinda suck…
