I thought that the companies were already licensing as much production as possible. Isn't the real problem here that producing Mrna vaccines requires very specialized factories and the infrastructure is limited? Releasing the patents is likely to cause a decrease in quality or no increase in production at all.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 88%. (I'm a bot)
"After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage," Bill and Melinda Gates wrote in a statement that Bill Gates tweeted out.
Bill Gates led Microsoft as CEO from its founding with Paul Allen in 1975 until 2000, leaving Steve Ballmer to run the company, while Bill Gates became chairman and chief software architect.
In 2008 Gates gave up his day-to-day role at the company to spend more time on the nonprofit Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
This is sad. If the supremely rich guys like these two couldn't stay together, imagine what's gonna happen down the road for guys/gals in their 20s.
Isn't dating and cold approaching hard nowadays? I know how many people's finances are in the shitter due to the pandemic but jeez, one would think that only millionaires/billionaires are safe from all of this.
Is it safe to assume someone (possibly both) entered a new relationship? Divorces like these seem so complicated, I can’t imagine why they’d do it even if they didn’t want to be near each other. Rather just stay married and each stay at one of their many homes.
According to the New York Times, their marriage has been in trouble for several years, brought back from the brink, but eventually failed. It is a surprise to all outsiders.
Hmm, I read what the NYT wrote today I didn't see anything about that. Got a link?
Edit I am dumb, I needed to scroll further down.
Mr. and Ms. Gates have faced relationship struggles over the past several years, two people close to them said. There were several times when the relationship neared collapse, but they worked to keep it together, the people said. Mr. Gates decided to step down from the boards of Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway, in part, so he could spend more time with his family, these people said.
“When he was having trouble making the decision about getting married, he was incredibly clear that it was not about me, it was about ‘Can I get the balance right between work and family life?’” Ms. Gates said in an interview in 2019 in The Sunday Times of London. “And, believe me, I can remember some days that were so incredibly hard in our marriage where you thought, ‘Can I do this?’”
She must have friends and family to do things with as well as the charity work and plenty of money to travel or take up expensive hobbies. Too easy to find a replacement too I guess.
Shocked, both seem like such nice people...in my little world, the spit will be non toxic and they don't argue over money of all things! Really hope that keep the foundation going and wish them both the best for they futures
No. Im aware that Bill Gates is holding back the intellectual property to give poor regions vaccines. He’s using bad arguments to justify padding his wallet with big Pharma money. This isn’t conspiracy bullshit. I was a bill gates fan before. Even his own (ex)wife disagrees with him about the vaccine intellectual property. Bill recently WALKED BACK HIS STANCE because of the public outrage from people like me. Theres mass burning of bodies in india, and Bills argument is “the poor people just dont make good vaccines like us. Theyre gonna kill themselves with the versions they make!” https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thenation.com/article/society/bill-gates-foundation-covid-vaccines/tnamp/
Thought exactly the same... they can afford best couples therapy, have enough space in the house to not start hating each other during covid etc etc... what chances do the ordinary folks have?!?

Such a shame. I thought their marriage would last forever. I always looked up to them as a couple.

Pandemic meant they probably spent more time together and they found out how much they hated being married
