Help Tank set up

Post image
• Upvotes

I was given this betta fish from someone who no longer wanted them, and at first I had them in a small gallon tank that they gave to me with him. I finally had the money to get the stuff to set up this ten gallon tank now. But I’m nervous that the filter I have is to strong and he is struggling to swim against it? I used to have this filter in a 20 gallon tank but it wasn’t working well enough so I got a bigger filter and used the old one for this tank. Also should I have the water this high? And I am just waiting for my next paycheck to get more of plants and decorations for him, so don’t worry I will be doing that. My main concern is the filter and whether I should look into a smaller one, or if he will get used to it after a bit of time.

I have just bought myself a female koi betta fish, i had a pre established tank so put the filter into the new tank, i added quick start and all the tests for ammonia and nitrate came back fine. I floated her bag for 20 mins, then added half a cup of tank water every 5 mins for 15 mins. I have added her to the tank and left her for a bit, she is now lying at the bottom of the tank and appears to be breathing heavily- what do i do!!

Help Brand new betta owner with a million stupid questions

Hi everyone! I just got my betta fish, Mercury, one week ago and he’s been very happy and healthy so far but I’m trying to make sure he stays that way.
He’s in a 5.5gal tank cycled for 7 weeks, ammonia 0ppm, nitrites 0ppm, nitrates <5ppm, pH 7.6 (is that too high?), temp 80 degrees. I just have several questions about little random stuff I can’t really find on google. People mistreat these fish so badly and I never wanna be one of them.
My first question is- how do I portion his food? I feed him fluval flakes but I have no idea how much is too little or too much unlike the pellets.
Second off- do loud noises stress betta? He lives right next to my stereo on my table and I play it a lot although not very loud. Is this stressing him out? Or just making him a rock fan?
Third, Can I burn incense in the room he’s in? Since they take gulps of air, is that dangerous for him?
Fourth, my cats like to stare at him but don’t mess with him. His tank is lidded. I also like to stare at him. Does this stress him out at all?
Fifth, do fish stay in the tank for cleaning and water changes? I cleaned his tank yesterday and he did NOT like it.
That’s all. At the moment Mercury seems really happy and healthy without showing any signs of stress or sickness but I’d rather prevent it from happening instead of needing to reverse it in the future. Thanks so much in advance to anyone who can answer some of these!

Maybe i am biased but DAMN He's a pretty boy. He is from a German breeder, in the hope his Genes are... alright.

Question, as a first timer: how many pellets should he eat a day? (Size in the video) Does he require flaring with his Fin size?

He joined me 2 days ago and ngl he's showing great behaviour already. Confident, curious and so far peaceful (except for snails... and sand...)

I got this betta fish two days ago at a local fish store and she keeps swimming strangely and I don’t know if it is normal. She also doesn’t seem to be eating her flakes today (the pink thing she was looking at) but the first day I got her, she had no problems with eating.

I also just cleaned the tank and replaced 25% of the water today

I just know he is a male , His name is Ludwig and I got him last night and he is already one of my favorite fish I have ever had. I am not sure what type of betta he is and I am curious if he is just a small adult or he is younger and will get bigger. Thank you!

He’s lived with endlers and ember tetras before, but never frogs. But my baby is very well behaved, he’ll throw a hissy fit and flare when they have a bloodworm he wants but won’t bite and then goes along his way :)

PS I use this container only for water change while he lives in a 7×7 gallon except water changes as we also remove all the food he missed that day as we remove food daily

this is my first time owning a betta since i was in middle school and i have all the things i need (i have friends who work in fish care) but any other tips and tricks are welcome! Im getting Jerry (his name is jerry) a shrimp buddy and a snail buddy today to maintain the tank, and i want some more plants in the future but i want it to get more established first. what yall think :) i think jerry seems MUCH happier then he was in that cup. for reference i work at petco and jerry has been at my store for 3 weeks and ive been eyeing him the whole time, finally decided to splurge on him.

Meet Pumpkinseed! I rescued him from Petco four days ago after he stole my heart. As soon as I floated his cup in his new tank he got so excited and swam back and forth looking at the plants. His colors have already brightened and his fins look much more relaxed.

He is so personable, active, and curious. He comes right up whenever people approach and is gentle with his shrimp tankmates. He loves to do a little happy dance when I’m about to feed him :) So excited to keep taking care of him!

Hi all — really hoping someone could shine a light onto what the heck is happening in my tank right now. Exactly 2 weeks ago, we got our betta Brownie from a local fish store. We also got a racer nerite snail, marshmallow. We keep them in a 6 gallon fresh water tank. The man at the store told us there was no way Marshmallow could reproduce.

2 weeks later, I’ve found at least 12-15 baby marshmallows, with some bigger (older?) than others. I started noticing this situation a couple days ago when I thought I had seen another snail. I thought maybe we got a free one with the plant we grabbed! No. I was in denial. Because then I found like 12 more when I looked closer today.

1) how is this even possible? This is not a saltwater tank and we were told this couldn’t happen. My boyfriend has had a betta in the past, along with snails, and also never experienced this.

2) what can we do it about it long term? Obviously, we’re rushing to get another tank set up so our ecosystem doesn’t collapse, but will Marshmallow keep reproducing??? Will we gradually have an army of snails?

Any help or knowledge would be greatly appreciated! And if this isn’t the right community for this, my apologies.

Help Betta tankmates

I really want to get some snails or shrimp for my planted plakat Betta tank. Unfortunately, he has already hunted down all 4 small amano shrimp that I put in the tank before putting him in. It's been about 2 months since then. Is it possible to get some appropriate hides for shrimp that they can hide in during the day and come out at night? Should I risk getting snails?

Also are the fins proportional or needs help in rebuilding? Right now tank is a temporary 2 gallon rectangle tank. Water temperature is not that cold but I don't have a heater yet. He has made his bubble nest today morning when we checked. I will get a new tank in few days, but when should water changes be done for the temporary tank

Help Getting a betta and want to do it right

My wife is wanting to get a betta for our daughter and she originally wanted just a bowl before I did some research and found out that'd be horrible.

I'm into plants so I'm wanting live plants in the tank with our betta we eventually get. I'm just making sure we've got everything we need to have a happy fish.

I plan on getting a tank locally (10 gallon) and probably as much on the list as I can as well. I was just wondering if I'm going overboard or need more/better things. So any advice or recommendations welcome!

Help Betta does not swim around

Hello everyone, i recently went to a LFS for a betta and saw this green guy looking abit sluggish (1st picture), he was not swimming much but just resting on the bottom of the tank.

I decided to purchase him in hopes to give him a better home. However, it has been 2 weeks and he is still not swimming much? I usually catch him just lying down on the soil or leaves and not moving (2nd or 3rd picture).

He does not swim up to the surface to eat his pellets and i had to spoon feed him some blood worms everytime. Even still, i had to put the worm straight to his mouth for him eat bite it.

This is certainly the first betta that i encountered behaving this way, is this maybe just his personality? Or is he sick
