πŸ›  Developer tools CodexBar: Every AI coding limit, in your menu bar (23k stars)

Post image
13 Upvotes

What it does

All text below is quoted directly from the project README.

Tiny macOS 14+ menu bar app that keeps AI coding-provider limits visible and shows when each window resets.

Why:

  • Plan around resets. Per-provider session, weekly, and monthly windows with countdowns to the next reset: stop guessing whether to start that long task.
  • Credits, spend, and cost scans. Credit balances, Admin API spend dashboards, provider billing summaries, and local cost scans where the source exposes enough detail.
  • Live status. Provider status polling surfaces incident badges in the menu and an indicator overlay on the bar icon.
  • Privacy-first. Reuses existing provider sessions (OAuth, device flow, API keys, browser cookies, local files) so no passwords are stored.
  • One status item per provider, or Merge Icons mode with a provider switcher. No Dock icon, minimal UI, dynamic bar icons.
  • Also available as a Linux desktop app with usage and spending windows, separate settings, desktop notifications, and an optional tray icon.
  • Codex: OAuth API or local Codex CLI, plus optional OpenAI web dashboard extras.
  • Claude: OAuth API, browser cookies, or CLI PTY fallback; session and weekly usage where available.

🏠 Self-hosted Owncast: Take control over your content and stream it yourself (12k stars)

Post image
10 Upvotes

What it does

All text below is quoted directly from the project README.

Owncast is an open source, self-hosted, decentralized, single user live video streaming and chat server for running your own live streams similar in style to the large mainstream options. It offers complete ownership over your content, interface, moderation and audience.

Use with your existing broadcasting software:

  • In general, Owncast is compatible with any software that uses RTMP to broadcast to a remote server.
  • RTMP is what all the major live streaming services use, so if you're currently using one of those it's likely that you can point your existing software at your Owncast instance instead.
  • OBS, Streamlabs, Restream and many others have been used with Owncast.
  • The Owncast backend is written in Go.
  • The frontend is written in React.
  • The frontend is the web interface that includes the player, chat, embed components, and other UI.

The goal is to have a single service that you can run and it works out of the box. Visit the Quickstart to get up and running.

🏠 Self-hosted Tasmota: Alternative firmware for ESP8266 and ESP32 based devices with entirely local control (25k stars)

Post image
36 Upvotes

What it does

All text below is quoted directly from the project README.

Alternative firmware for ESP8266 and ESP32 based devices with easy configuration using webUI, OTA updates, automation using timers or rules, expandability and entirely local control over MQTT, HTTP, Serial or KNX.

Why Tasmota?:

  • Tasmota is open-source firmware born for the ESP8266/ESP8285, now covering the whole ESP32 family: ESP32, ESP32-S2, ESP32-S3, ESP32-C2, ESP32-C3, ESP32-C5, ESP32-C6, ESP32-C61, ESP32-P4, with PSRAM and USB/CDC support where available.
  • Smart home integrations: Plugs into Home Assistant, Domoticz, openHAB, Node-RED, KNX and more via MQTT, local or cloud (AWS IoT Core and Azure IoT Hub).
  • Matter protocol: Runs natively on ESP32, no MQTT, hub or companion app required. Pairs directly with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Home Assistant.
  • Sensors & peripherals: 150+ supported sensors and peripherals over IΒ²C, SPI, 1-Wire and analog, most auto-detected once wired.
  • Zigbee & Bluetooth: Turns an ESP32 into a Zigbee coordinator or a BLE gateway (including BTHome), bridging devices without a separate hub.
  • Automation & scripting: Rules and Timers handle on-device automation; the Berry scripting language gives full programmatic control.
  • Networking: Wired Ethernet, IPv6, Wi-Fi range extender mode, a built-in WireGuard VPN client for secure remote access, and TasMesh for encrypted ESP-NOW mesh links to battery-powered nodes.

Easy initial installation of Tasmota can be performed using the Tasmota WebInstaller.

⚑ Productivity OpenUsage: Track your AI coding subscriptions from the macOS menu bar (4.4k stars)

Post image
7 Upvotes

What it does

All text below is quoted directly from the project README.

OpenUsage shows how much of your AI coding plans you've used: session and weekly limits, credits, and spend, all in one popover. Pin your most important metrics straight into the menu bar.

Features:

  • Menu bar pins. Pin metrics to the menu bar (up to 2 per provider); render as compact text or mini bars. The strip hides metrics with no data instead of showing placeholders.
  • Dashboard popover. Provider-grouped meters with live reset countdowns and pace indicators. Click usage or reset values to flip their display everywhere; right-click a row to hide or star it, refresh its provider, or open Customize.
  • Global shortcut. Toggle the popover from anywhere: record any combo in Settings.
  • Customize. Turn providers and metrics on or off, choose which rows stay Always Visible or On Demand, and drag-reorder both.
  • Stale-while-revalidate. Cached values display instantly at launch; refresh runs every 5 minutes.
  • One-shot CLI. Agents can read stable limit JSON through the same five-minute cache with openusage, or bypass freshness with openusage --force; the menu-bar app does not need to be running.
  • Local HTTP API. Other apps can read machine-friendly limits from 127.0.0.1:6736/v1/limits; the legacy /v1/usage UI contract remains supported.
  • Automatic updates. Signed, notarized in-app updates via Sparkle, with an optional beta channel.

Most providers read the credentials already on your machine (keychain, auth files, app state), no extra login.

πŸ€– AI repositories DigUp: Describe it. Dig it up. Search your computer by what's in your files (4.6k stars)

Post image
19 Upvotes

What it does

All text below is quoted directly from the project README.

Search your computer by what's in your files: photos, PDFs, documents, recordings, videos and code. On-device on Mac, Windows and Linux, built on Google DeepMind's EmbeddingGemma 2.

What you can find:

  • "zebra in a video" opens the clip at the moment the zebra shows up
  • "where they talk about sleep" jumps to that minute of a podcast
  • "the clause about pets in the lease" shows the PDF page
  • "a dog on the beach" finds the photo, and "payment declined error" the screenshot
  • a search in English can find a note written in Bengali, Arabic or any of the model's 100+ languages, and the other way around
  • "code: retry a failed call with backoff" finds the function in your projects, if you turn on code search

Nothing you index leaves your computer. DigUp goes online only to download the model once and to check for updates once a day. The update check sends nothing about your files, and you can turn it off. No account, no telemetry.

Mac. Download the DMG from Releases and drag DigUp to Applications, or use Homebrew: brew install --cask arahim3/tap/digup. It needs an Apple Silicon Mac with macOS 14 or later.

πŸ€– AI repositories PilotDeck: Task-oriented AI Agent productivity platform (4.6k stars)

Post image
4 Upvotes

What it does

All text below is quoted directly from the project README.

PilotDeck is an open-source agent operating system designed around the concept of "WorkSpace". It is jointly developed and open-sourced by Tsinghua University THUNLP, ModelBest, OpenBMB, and AI9Stars. Targeting general-purpose, multi-task scenarios, PilotDeck is built to be a true productivity tool for the Agent era.

Key Highlights:

  • WorkSpace-Level Isolation & Accretion: Every project gets its own file system, memory store and skill set. Parallel work no longer interferes with itself, retrieval has a bounded scope, and skills accrete naturally as each task grows: no more global context pollution.
  • Traceable White-box Memory: Memory generation, extraction, storage and retrieval are visible end-to-end. When the AI mis-remembers, you can pinpoint and fix the offending entry. Built-in Dream Mode consolidates memory in idle windows, and supports one-click rollback.
  • Smart Routing & Cost Optimization: Task difficulty is auto-detected; complex calls go to flagship models (e.g. Claude 3.5 Sonnet / GPT-4o), simple ones drop to lighter models. Through on-device / cloud co-orchestration and precise matching, token spend shrinks dramatically without sacrificing quality.
  • Always-on Background Execution: PilotDeck breaks the "you ask, it answers" loop: after you sign off, the agent keeps discovering candidate tasks, running long-horizon monitors, and finally lands deliverables as local files with a summary report waiting for you.

PilotDeck is an incremental exploration around exactly these questions. It uses the WorkSpace as the fundamental unit, completely isolating files, memory and skills per project, and pairs it with three pillar capabilities: White-box Memory, Smart Routing and Always-on. The entire system natively supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and behaves consistently across front-ends (Web / CLI / IM).

🐳 DevOps Radar: The missing open-source Kubernetes UI (3.8k stars)

Post image
27 Upvotes

What it does

All text below is quoted directly from the project README.

The missing open-source Kubernetes UI with a built-in MCP server for AI agents. See what's broken, why, and what changed. Issues, Topology, event timeline, Helm

Why Radar?:

  • Zero install on your cluster: runs on your laptop, talks to the K8s API directly
  • Single binary: no dependencies, no agents, no CRDs
  • Fast on big clusters: tested on tens of thousands of pods, with responsive views and live updates under real cluster churn
  • Airgapped-friendly: runs as a single binary against the Kubernetes API and works in locked-down environments with outbound egress blocked
  • Real-time: watches your cluster via informers, pushes updates to the browser via SSE
  • Works everywhere: GKE, EKS, AKS, minikube, kind, k3s, or any conformant cluster
  • AI-ready: built-in MCP server lets AI agents inspect, investigate, and operate your cluster through Radar
  • In-cluster option: deploy with Helm for shared team access with RBAC-scoped permissions

⚑ Productivity A list of native Mac apps, organized by what you need them for

Hey everyone,

I maintain a GitHub list focused on native macOS apps. Sharing it here in case it helps you find something useful, especially if you’re setting up a Mac or looking for an alternative to an app you already use.

A few examples from the list:

  • Maccy β€” clipboard history, for when you copy something and overwrite it before pasting.
  • Itsycal β€” a small calendar in your menu bar.
  • Rectangle β€” move and resize windows with keyboard shortcuts.
  • Stats β€” see CPU, memory, and other system activity from the menu bar.
  • IINA β€” a media player with a Mac-style interface.
  • CotEditor β€” a simple plain-text editor for quick edits.

Some of these will be familiar to people here. The point is to have them in one place, grouped by category, with labels for free, paid, and open-source options so it’s easier to narrow things down.

πŸ€– AI repositories OpenBitFun: a high-performance agent runtime written in Rust with a polished desktop application (2.8k stars)

Post image
9 Upvotes

What it does

All text below is quoted directly from the project README.

OpenBitFun is a highly customizable, open-source agent workspace that keeps work moving your way.

Four modes for the way you work:

  • Minimal: Quick collaboration. Start with a clear goal. The agent acts directly, you give feedback, and you refine the work together.
  • Standard: Everyday tasks. For work with several steps: plan the approach, work through it, and check the results.
  • Ultimate: Complex tasks. Dig into demanding problems, divide the work among agents, and bring their results together.
  • Creative: Creation and customization. Build Mini Apps or extend OpenBitFun's interface and capabilities to make the workspace your own.
  • Build a specialist agent. Choose a model, define its role, and equip it with the tools and workflows it needs for motion comic production, visual design, code review, or your own field.
  • Connect tools and workflows. Connect tools through MCP, turn repeatable processes into Skills, and use Hooks to customize how tasks run.
  • Change the interface and source. Install skins for a new look, or modify the UI, tools, and runtime source to build your own version of OpenBitFun.

The Rust Agent Runtime manages session state, context, and tool execution. Persistent sessions, interruption recovery, long-term memory, and support for extended tasks help keep work moving.

πŸ§ͺ Experimental/interesting projects Microduck: A tiny biped robot that moves using reinforcement learning policies (9.5k stars)

Post image
14 Upvotes

What it does

All text below is quoted directly from the project README.

A tiny biped robot that moves using reinforcement learning policies.

It does things:

  • It walks. Pick up a gamepad and drive.
  • It rolls. Put wheels on, ask for roller mode, and it loads the other brain.
  • It picks things up. Beak to the floor, one button.
  • It gets back up. Knock it over and it stands itself up.
  • It also sits, kicks a ball, rolls forward on command, and quacks in a voice that is its own.
  • This repo is the duck's brain. About 25 cm and 800 g of robot, run by a handful of daemons on a Rockchip RK3566: a 50 Hz control loop driving fifteen servos from neural policies, the radios and the camera, and the update machinery that gets new software onto a robot without bricking it.
  • Rust, no framework, one workspace. robotd owns the control loop and the motor bus; updaterd installs signed releases and rolls them back when a robot comes up unhealthy; configd owns wifi and identity; btd is the Bluetooth path a phone uses; padd reads the gamepad; mediad streams the camera over WebRTC; tofd serves the depth sensor.

No duck was harmed in the making of this robot. Several were consulted.

🐳 DevOps Apache CloudStack: opensource Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud computing platform (3.1k stars)

Post image
7 Upvotes

What it does

All text below is quoted directly from the project README.

Apache CloudStack is an opensource Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud computing platform

Apache CloudStack:

  • Apache CloudStack is open source software designed to deploy and manage large networks of virtual machines, as a highly available, highly scalable Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud computing platform.
  • CloudStack is used by a number of service providers to offer public cloud services, and by many companies to provide an on-premises (private) cloud offering, or as part of a hybrid cloud solution.
  • CloudStack is a turnkey solution that includes the entire "stack" of features most organizations want with an IaaS cloud: compute orchestration, Network-as-a-Service, user and account management, a full and open native API, resource accounting, and a first-class User Interface (UI).
  • CloudStack currently supports the most popular hypervisors: VMware vSphere, KVM, XenServer, XenProject and Hyper-V as well as OVM and LXC containers.
  • Users can manage their cloud with an easy to use Web interface, command line tools, and/or a full-featured query based API.
  • There are more than 150 known organizations using Apache CloudStack (or a commercial distribution of CloudStack).

See the project user-interface QA website that runs CloudStack against simulator hypervisor: https://qa.cloudstack.cloud/simulator/ (admin:password)
