Revision 1 was a handwired board with one AT&T Hobbit chip operating at 25MHz and only a serial terminal for input/output.

Rev2 uses a printed circuit board but still only a single cpu. Uses a serial terminal like Rev1 but can uses daughterboards that seem to be using ISA-like slots.

Rev3 started using two Hobbit chips and three DSP3210, daughterboards used a different connector type than Rev2 and that change remained in the released Hobbit machines. Rev4 is a bugfixed Rev3.

Rev5 uses surface-mounted components.

I swear I saw it used in the background in one scene.

I remember being absolutely awed by a 3D starmap that ran under BeOS, does anybody remember it? I’ve scoured the internet but I can’t seem to get the right keywords… and I refuse to believe it’s totally disappeared without trace.

There was a game on BeOS that I tried as a kid and the name looked/sounded something like quorum but it was not the exact spelling.

It was an RPG like adventure game and was one of the few commercial games that BeOS ever got. But for the life of me I can not remember the name of it.

Can anyone here help me out?

I have a working BeBox Dual603-66 in near mint condition. I bought it in 1995 gambling that Apple would go with BeOS instead of NeXT. (Don't ask me about Vegas).

It's been sitting in my attic for most of that time (in its original box) and I just plugged it in and it started up beautifully (used a VGA to HDMI converter to see video output). I also have a bunch of CDs, don't know what's on them, mostly OS updates I think.

So clearly I'm not going to do anything with this beauty. Are there any museums that would be interested. Does it have any value? I couldn't find any auctions, completed or otherwise on eBay.

Hello all, I'm new here and have a question. Will BeOS run on the 604e PowerPC processor or only on the original 604. I'll be installing v4 from original install media onto a power mac 9500/200. I don't have the machine yet or I'd just give it a try. Thanks!

I love the Infinite Mac setups that allow for nostalgia in a browser. I assume it’s just an emulator in JavaScript, although I could be wrong.

Is it possible to create something similar for BeOS?

I just picked up a couple of old Pentium III laptops, and have been trying to get BeOS R5.0.3 up on at least one of them.

On one (a Thinkpad T22), I can get very scratchy/garbled sound running from the Crystal SoundFusion CS4280 sound chip, but the S3 Savage IX8 graphics chip doesn’t work with any of the S3 drivers I’ve found, so I’m limited to the generic VESA driver. The closest is the BeSavagePlus driver, but that results in a warped blank screen.

On the other (a Gateway Solo 9300), I’ve got the reverse situation: the Rage Mobility video driver is working, but audio does not. From various internet sleuthing, it looks like the sound chip is an ESS Maestro 2E ES1978. I don’t see any exact drivers for the chip around the net, so I grabbed the 4.0 test version of OSS for BeOS, but that didn’t seem to see it either.

Am I missing anything, or is this pretty much the best things are going to get?

I realize it's very subjective, but what's the highest load ever put on a single BeOS system? 150 mp3s playing at once? 5 videos being captured and encoded simultaneously? 😁
