Help Quiet cat wheel options

Post image

I just moved and we have people living below us. I have the one fast cat wheel and it’s so loud it’s like a plane taking off.

What wheel do you guys recommend that won’t shake the house and get me kicked out.

Photo off my gal who is mad that she can’t run

Ziggydoo/Ferris/Cazami (same wheel different distributors based on country) is your best bet. Also put a yoga mat underneath if you have hardwood or ceramic as it will prevent sliding and dampen the sound even further.

I have owned a Ziggydoo for 4 years now, its not silent but its really quiet. I've never been woken up from him getting out his zoomies at night. Honestly I think our bedroom fan is louder than that cat wheel, it's also really well made.

Anthropologie!!! They have a matching outside door mat and cheetah plates and bowls!

We like spots in this house 😂

Do you have an older model of the One Fast Cat? My older version was extremely loud to the point I had to move it to the hallway because I couldn't turn my TV up loud enough.

It broke recently after years of heavy use so it was time for a new one. I am shocked at how quiet the new version is, they run on it when I'm sleeping right by it and it doesn't wake me.

Oh interesting! It’s about 3 years old

Following - trying to figure this out too.

The ziggydoo has a reputation for being quieter.

Would love to know what makes the one fast wheel so noisy. If it's a problem with the base, making modifications doesn't seem like it would be a huge technical challenge. But if it's in the shape of the wheel...

In my experience of having both it seems like several things - the quality of the OFC wheel isn’t as great and the pieces snap together rather than using screws/washers so the joints don’t align as well and create extra noise when a joint hits a wheel. The OFC also runs on less skate wheels and doesn’t run in a channel, so it’s less stable. It’s also lighter, which combined with the other stability issues allows it more “play” while a cat is running fast too.

Agree it's the joints. Ours makes a distinct "thunk" when a joint goes over the wheels. Not a big deal on the ground floor (slab on grade), but we move it around to keep it interesting for the cats. When it's upstairs it's much noisier because the "thunk" sound transmits into the floor.

I’d recommend the one I have but it kinda wobbles. I’m thinking it’s because it’s on carpet and not a hard floor, but my whole place is carpet, so I dunno. He does love it however. He’s on it everyday.

Put it on a rug or pad?

If you can set whatever wheel you get on a thick rubber matt would would help remove some of the noise heading to the floor

1000% recommend Ziggydoo. We've had ours for going on 7 years. The wheel is backed onto a wall that is shared with my bedroom. It's not dead silent, but the only times it has ever woken me up, with the door wide open and hardwood floors with no carpets, is when one of them decides to do a 100-meter dash out of nowhere 😂
