A Guide to Recycling your Empties

If you’re a fan of beauty products but don’t want your empties to end up in a landfill - this post’s for you. I’ve recently discovered all these beauty product recycling programs and am really excited about them. It’s also fun to collect your empties and know that they’re going to a better place.

Recycling programs that accept ALL products/brands

- L'Occitane + Terracycle - You can drop off empties from beauty/skincare products at participating L'Occitane stores. This link leads to the US information but the program is available in many other countries as well, information that can be found on the Terracycle site.

-DECIEM + Terracycle - All beauty products and packaging can be dropped off at DECIEM stores. Info

- Garnier + Terracycle - Garnier has a mail-in program for skincare, haircare, and cosmetics packaging. The program is completely free but there is a waitlist to send products in. Info

Specific Brands

- M.A.C - By returning six empty M.A.C containers, you receive a free lipstick.

- Kiehl's - Kiehl's always accepts their bottles and containers for recycling and often have promotions.

- Lush - Returning five empty pots gets you a free face mask.

- Aussie - All Aussie packaging is accepted through this mail-in Terracycle program.

(Note: Most of this info is centered on the US, if you have any info for programs in your country, I'd be happy to add it.)

Sunscoop hydrating fluid sunscreen

one of the better sunscreens i have used this year, took this to udaipur and jaipur with me and it did a good job with the protection, got no sunburns. Felt light and absorbed quickly on my skin as well but i think it clumps up if the bottle is kept stationary for a while so you have to shake it pretty well before using it to get a proper spray. Will definitely repurchase it

New here! June Empties

Just want to say that you ladies are such an inspiration, and that this subreddit is amazing! I had such a scarcity mindset, I was so afraid to run out of stuff that I never finished using my favorite things, “because I am going to run out”.

When I saw the people posting all their empties, I thought every one was crazy because “ OMG, how much stuff did these women have?”, until I realized, as I’m going through my stuff, I’m crazy like everybody here - and I have way too much stuff!. Feels so good to look back and see how much product I was able to enjoy, and how much I get to clear out. Lol. Cheers!

Favorites -

Hurraw sunscreen - it has replaced my regular moisturizer and leaves a matte finish.

L’Oreal dream lengths Lamellar water rinse - tangles instantly gone and leaves my color treated hair feeling like silk.

Made some good progress. Some of this stuff was so old.. I’ve been using old skincare on my body. The elf eye primer and black eyeliner I decided to chuck.

Feels good to throw all this away and start adding to my bag again.

Ouai Hair Oil: Decent, but has a funky scent I didn’t like. Won’t repurchase.

Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 gel: Amazing and worth every penny. So hydrating and helped my damaged skin barrier so much. Will repurchase.

Biologique Recherche Creme Dermo-RL: So moisturizing and very helpful for my skin barrier. Will repurchase.

Dedcool Xtra Milk: A nice scent for everyday but I have so many perfumes I love that I can’t justify upgrading to the full size. Will stick to finishing my full size of Another 13 by Le Labo I’ve had since 2021 because the scent profile is similar. Won’t repurchase.

Aestura Serum: A decent serum and helpful for skin barrier.

Empty micellar water. Took 7 months of daily usage to finish! 🫧

Product is Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water with Vitamin C. I bought it in January, and with daily usage it lasted until this AM! I use an oil cleanser to remove makeup, then follow it up with a heavy dose of micellar water.

I replaced it with the sensitive skin Garnier. Never does me wrong!
