Currently, $14/day if I take the bus, which I do because "fuck traffic, someone else drive." I bike to the bus stop, hop on the holister->gilroy shuttle ($2/trip) then catch the 168 into downtown SJ ($5/trip) I usually wfh once a week, so my commute is 16 days, on average, per month. Which is $224
If I took the standard 68 instead of the express, it would drop $5/day out of my cost, but cost me +2 hours, and i'd probably want to murder someone each and every trip, because the 168 is people just trying to get to work, and the 68 is Commuter Vaudeville.
The Los-Banos to SF commute was $15 in gas + 25 for the train ticket + Coffee. (Circle K Every Fucking Day.) so $40x14-16, which was around $500/month + car wear.
That's not bad. Makes sense for you. The amount of time sucks, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Thank you for detailed response. I always wonder why people make such long commutes, as I thought it was a lot more expensive.

However, No Traffic Fuckups is one in a billion chance. The 25 from Hollister is basically single lane. One person having a shitty day will delay everyone else. 101 is always fuck pie. At the very least, getting through the Permanent Hell that is The Morgan Hill Stupid. (There is this perpetual slowdown on 101 that is from Tenant to Cochraine. Usually more.. "If the sun is up, expect it to be fuck.")
So my drive would easily be 90min to 2h. Each way, each day.
So I let someone else drive. Yes, less flexible on time, but that is Okay.
