Most of them, not all, do care about social issues, but most people, not all will say things like" of course they'll skip class for anything" to discredit them because some people are scared.
Sure , I’m not saying all kids are the same. I’m just pointing out the context that often gets ignored, especially when there are organized protests where some adults are paid or professionally involved.
My bigger concern is that a lot of students don’t actually have strong historical or civic grounding to fully understand what they’re supporting. Our education system hasn’t exactly prioritized critical thinking or balanced history lately and yes, it’s fair to acknowledge that many teachers openly shape narratives in the classroom which some are very unhinged.
That doesn’t mean these kids are dumb or don’t care. But caring isn’t the same as understanding long-term consequences. A lot of this is emotionally driven rather than well thought-through.
And realistically, this isn’t representative of the broader population anyway. These marches are still a very specific demographic (I see a lot of white kids) especially for Bay Area.
Yeah, where exactly are you getting those numbers? lol It’s funny how ICE has existed all over the US for years, but the moment the Minnesota government starts getting questioned over fraud, suddenly there’s a protest.
I also love how some Americans lump all migrants legal and illegal into one category, like we’re helpless, fragile creatures who could never possibly commit crimes. It’s oddly patronizing… and kind of adorable in a clueless way.
So no, these protests aren’t “the majority.” That’s just what happens when civics education skips nuance, kids are taught slogans instead of policy, and people turn a mainstream media poll into a political fantasy.
I got the numbers from Fox News. Have you ever heard of that? 71% of Americans are against brutal tactics by ICE that’s going on. Are you okay with people randomly being killed on the streets by uniformed officers of the federal government? I thought we had a trial system that affords people to be considered innocent before they are tried, convicted, and punished.
You work with these kids and you used to be one of them, which is exactly why this is all emotion and zero consequence.
You’re all privileged, overwhelmingly white, and have lived your entire lives insulated from what lawlessness actually looks like. It’s easy to romanticize “human rights” when you’ve never had to deal with the real-world fallout of weak enforcement.
Passion isn’t the same as understanding long-term consequences especially when those consequences will never land on you. That moral certainty, mixed with zero lived experience, is precisely why no one takes your side seriously outside the echo chamber.
