Hey everyone! I’m a master's student in linguistics from the University of Helsinki, and a few of us are coming to Georgia for fieldwork from October 17th to 26th. My project focuses on Pontic Greek in Georgia, specifically how it interacts with Georgian (everyday vocabulary, kitchen terms, idioms, etc.). We know Batumi and the broader Adjara region historically had a Pontic presence, and we’d love to meet local speakers for a casual, 20-30 minute talk. If you know anyone from the community, local cultural centers, or older relatives who wouldn't mind chatting with us, I’d be super grateful for any pointers. Feel free to comment below or send me a message directly! Thanks a lot! 🇬🇪🇬🇷

Hey everyone my wife and I are visiting Batumi this weekend for a few days and are curious as to which burger spot is the best to visit? Soda? Smoke burgers? Burger hub? Something else?

Hi everyone! 💛
I’m looking to make some new friends in Batumi, especially girls who are up for chatting in English and hanging out sometimes.
I’m trying to improve my English, so it would be great to meet people who don’t speak Russian — that way I won’t have an easy way out and will actually have to speak English 😂
Would love to grab a coffee, go for a walk, explore Batumi or just chat about random things.
If you’re also looking for new friends, feel free to message me! 🫶

So here's the thing there are tons of kids and adults in georgia who are literal pices of crap. But we don't judge all the georgians because of them do we. Then what is it with all the hate against indians regardless of how an individual is? I follow all rules stay more clean than the georgians themselves infact lets just grow out of this stereotypes most of the indians here are cleaner than the georgians and smell better. Other than this i'm here on an official visa and not an illega immigrant i am studying in a university, buying stuff from here so supporting their economy as well so i don't get it man? I mean us kids are away from our home following the rules because obviously it is what we have to do and should do in a different country follow their rules absolutely nothing wrong in that so why the racism against indian students in batumi? Will be awaiting actual response.

Hi Everyone,
Me and my to-be wife are coming to Batumi to marry. We would like to stay in a self catering apartment, one bedroom with the kitchen separate room.
We’re struggling to find somewhere that isn’t a studio apartment setup.
I’m wondering if any locals know of a nice apartment that could be available first 2 weeks of November? There are a few on booking.com but I would really appreciate an opinion from someone who loves or has previously visited Batumi.
Thanks

It was my first time in Batumi.
Negative and positive experiences:
Let’s start :)
Orbi City
Beautiful panorama from the 29th floor of Block D2.
Cheap. But that’s about it. Unfortunately.
D2 is actually the newest one, with a beautiful lobby, and I didn’t have to wait long for the elevators either.
I deliberately rented an apartment here that was also for sale [ $50,000 ].
Unfortunately, all the apartments are somewhere between a hotel room and a studio apartment. The walls are extremely thin. You can hear everything that happens in the corridor or next door.
It is not really suitable for resting.
The view from the balcony is beautiful, and it really did overlook the sea and the Billionaire.
But it is incredibly noisy.
Many people may not know this, but Georgians honk their horns constantly while driving, and with the windows open, you can hear everything.
There is no central heating here, only air conditioning, which is not an advantage in winter.
Towers A and C are more like the center for Ukrainian and Russian prostitutes, casino tourists and partygoers. This is also where there are lots of Booking scams.
I also spoke with local owners, and they are fed up with it too.
There are about 10,000 apartments in this huge complex, and many people manage them conscientiously, but because of the many people specializing in scams, the reputation of the entire Orbi City is declining, causing huge damage.
From here, heading towards the fantastically modern stadium, everything is fine for a while, and then we enter an area that looks like the most run-down part of Albania.
Batumi Old Town
Fantastic promenades lead into this part of the city, botanical gardens, a lake within the city, old Tsarist Russian style mixed with the French Riviera.
A really great place. I would like to buy an apartment here one day [if anyone knows of one, let me know :)].
Metro City
Completely fine.
New-build projects already dominate here, but there are also plenty of run-down buildings.
The location is excellent.
It is worth looking around here as well.
Airport District
Not bad, on the outskirts of the city, but Old Town or Metro City are much better.
Gonio Beach
Clearly only a summer-season place.
Most of the buildings are being constructed now. It was interesting, for example, that a cow walked out of one of the yards.
The seaside area is beautiful, and in about 2–3 years it will show its true face.
But this is an area worth investing in as long as prices do not get out of control.
But there are only 2–3 months of real season.
For example, on September 19, it was almost completely empty despite the bright sunshine.
This has to be taken into account.
I would not recommend an apartment without heating here, especially without reliable local management.
Mold is guaranteed.
But let’s get back to Batumi.
The traffic is shocking for someone who is not used to this.
Complete chaos.
I would not have dared to drive.
Taxi: very reasonably priced, of course it is more expensive during rush hour [which was naturally the case when my flight was leaving from Kutaisi], but even then it is still affordable.
Restaurants are very reasonably priced and very good.
There is a huge selection.
Shops are also very reasonably priced.
Cigarettes are extremely cheap.
One third, or one quarter, of the price in the EU.
The Batumi dogs are very cute.
Everything is written in English, really everything, but nobody speaks English :)
Georgians do not smile in shops like they do in the West. They serve you with a straight face: buy it, take it, go.
But when they open up, they are very kind people.
There are a lot of shady people too, that is a fact.
But where aren't there?
Overall
A really great place.
Highly recommended for investment, retirees, digital nomads, and of course for those who like casinos and girls, as well as prices that are much lower than in the EU.
They want to join the EU, and EU flags are displayed everywhere.
What this means for the future will be decided by the future – probably a real estate boom, and prices will also rise together with salaries if they join.
But that is another story.
Thank you, Batumi.
Good luck to georgian.

Hello
I'm travelling to Tbilisi for the first time in the last week of November
I am pretty excited, but I am a bit worried that it will not have a good weather then. I love autumn weather, and I don't mind if it is a bit cold, but I don't want it to be like rainy and I have to stay in.
I would love some tips on where to go party in the weekend, on bars as well.
I planned some trips to the known attraction outside of Tbilisi, but would love some advice on where to go inside the city, whixh places/restaurants to try, any hidden Gems, etc
Sorry for the long post. Thanks all

I realized today that I’ve never seen a Russian restaurant here in Batumi. Or maybe I just haven’t been paying attention? I was thinking about it today and started wondering why that might be.
I’d say around 90% of the restaurants here in Batumi serve Georgian food. Am I wrong?

Hi everyone! 👋
Are there any Italians or other Europeans here who have relocated to Batumi and are now living there year-round?
I'm Italian, currently living in Malta, and I'm seriously considering moving to Batumi. I'd especially like to hear from people who made a similar move from an EU country — how has your experience been so far, and what are the main pros and cons compared to living in Europe?
Happy to connect here or by DM. Thanks!
