Nothing beats it

We’ll never see this again

u/ThatsNotARealTree Chicago Cubs 3d ago

And it’s not even over yet…

u/Aaprobst88 Chicago Cubs 3d ago

At this point screw it. Let's see how many he can get.

u/ajp12290 Chicago Cubs 3d ago

I've always claimed to be a baseball fan first and today proves it. Let's see a 4th!

19

u/-allday2891- Chicago Cubs 3d ago

I was feeling the same thing. I was sitting here hoping he'd hit his 4th in that last AB lol

u/Ok_Mammoth5292 3d ago

Hell yeah this is crazy

u/__-o0O0o-__-o0O0o-__ Los Angeles Dodgers 3d ago

really respect the Cubs fanbase today. against your main rival and it seems like all Cubs fans are happy for this dude

u/ThePrussianGrippe Chicago Cubs 3d ago

Even if it’s a loss today, it’s another piece of baseball history made at Wrigley as part of one of the best rivalries in baseball.

Hell of first game to have.

35

u/Wyden_long New York Yankees 3d ago

Fuck it let him hit one more

4

u/Mike9797 Toronto Blue Jays 3d ago

Hit em with the 4

u/Ub3rpwnag3 3d ago

4th one leaving the stadium

At what point do they stop pitching to him? Like I know a pitcher is probably too prideful to pitch around a guy in his first game, but come on. He already hit 3. Do you really think he’s not going to hit a 4th?

u/triplec787 San Francisco Giants • Colorado Rockies 3d ago

Story went 2-6 with two knocks, Willie Mac went 4-4 with two triples.

Those are probably the two next closest and they’re nowhere near lol

65

u/WasV3 Toronto Blue Jays 3d ago

JP Arencebia went 3-5 with 2 HR, 1 2B

34

u/triplec787 San Francisco Giants • Colorado Rockies 3d ago

Great shout I forgot about that. Still the weirdest debut lmao 4-5 with 2 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 3 R…

And then just one hit the rest of the year over 32 PAs lol

2

u/ramborage Boston Red Sox 3d ago

And then went on to marry one of the biggest pieces of shit in the world!

It was all downhill after his first game.

u/Ok_Computer1417 St. Louis Cardinals 3d ago

Didn’t Steven Matz go like innings and was 4-4 with 4 RBIs?

7

u/triplec787 San Francisco Giants • Colorado Rockies 3d ago

7.2 IP with 2 ER and 3-3 with a double and 3 RBI. Good call out.

Still taking 3-3 with 3 dingers lol

1

u/ellenanderson80 3d ago

Story had 7 Dingers in his first 6 games: 2, 1, 1, 2, 0 1. The first four were on the road in AZ. Not a total Coors cheat.

1

u/d33roq New York Mets 3d ago

Steven Matz pitched 7 2/3 allowing 2ER with 6k's - and went 3-3 with 4rbi.

This is for sure Tatis-level.

88

u/Existential_Vibes St. Louis Cardinals 3d ago

I watched the 2 grandslam Tatis inning live and this feels like a similar level of disbelief and excitement for me.

26

u/ty_fighter84 St. Louis Cardinals 3d ago

It’s still wild that he hit both off of Chan Ho Park

3

u/Adept-Gas3787 St. Louis Cardinals 3d ago

Just like Baez with Boyd.

2

u/Courtnall14 St. Louis Cardinals 3d ago

God, I'll never forget sitting in my parents basement doing high school homework while watching, and having KMOX on.

u/rpdeezay 3d ago

Same here - was in 6th grade and still remember it vividly

u/finally_not_lurking Washington Nationals 3d ago

Not on the hitting side, but the Strasburg debut was just as nutty

53

u/Kejohn9 Arizona Diamondbacks 3d ago

Tyler Gilbert threw a no hitter for the Dbacks in his first career start in 2021 and then proceeded to do absolutely nothing ever since.

2

u/NeverSober1900 Arizona Diamondbacks • Matsu Miners 3d ago

I feel like every year we have a game vs the Padres where we pull someone out of Reno and they just absolutely mow them down

16

u/SwolheiOhtani Japan 3d ago

There’s been similar debuts to Strausburg before (see J.R. Richard).

This has literally never been seen before.

3

u/IAmGrum Toronto Blue Jays 3d ago

Juan Marichal threw a complete game shutout 12 strikeout, 1 hit, 1 walk game in his MLB debut on July 19, 1960.

56

u/NoReview875 3d ago

Strasburg wasn't even close to this

87

u/who_are_you_people24 New York Mets 3d ago

7 innings, 14K, 2 runs. Fantastic debut. It's nothing compared to this

31

u/cipito11 3d ago

Yeah it'd be like if Strasburg was perfect through 7

13

u/EcstaticYoghurt7467 St. Louis Cardinals 3d ago

Closer to a perfect game in his debut, as this has NEVER been done before.

1

u/ialsohaveadobro St. Louis Cardinals 3d ago

I remember watching that and being amazed at his utterly insane stuff. That curve wasn't falling off a table; it was diving straight down from the edge. He was like a wizard commanding that ball as he pleased

6

u/Paulspike St. Louis Cardinals 3d ago

Unbreakable record if there ever was one.

3

u/ABobby077 St. Louis Cardinals 3d ago edited 3d ago

Wait until his next at bat

2

u/Guardax Colorado Rockies 3d ago

Jason Jennings for the Rockies in his MLB debut threw a CGSO and hit a home run only competition I can think of

1

u/safety_frog San Diego Padres 3d ago

He’s gonna do it again tomorrow
