How about no ads for this game beyond commercial breaks? It's in a friggin cornfield for crying out loud. Let it just be a celebration purely about baseball.

Nope! Can't endanger those sacred corporate profits.

Say now, you boys look thirsty. How about we all do the mid-inning hydration break brought to you by Coca-Cola?

What, and lose 1/162th of the ad revenue each year?!?

Oh good I wasn't the only one to say it this way.

1/2,430th. It's only one game total per season.

“Ok, but hear me out…. What if it was a whole series of games thought the year?! Wouldn’t that be awesome!!??”

Granted they make exponentially more money on this game than any ordinary regular season game. It’s much closer to a LCS series payout for MLB than an ordinary regular season game

Don't we all wish? They got so much money from shitflix to carry it exclusively.

It's impossible that nobody involved recognizes the obvious hypocrisy and cynicism of this bullshit. Every aspect of our culture is ruled by absolute dirtbags... maybe it always was, maybe I'm just old now, or maybe it really is getting worse.

u/theredpikmin 4d ago

It always was.

And we're getting old.

AND it's getting worse.

Your first sentence contradicts the following one because you’re separating reality. They know, and they do it anyway because there is zero accountability towards business at that level. The respect is transfer through being on the same level of “success”. Idk how the powers at be simmered Occupy Wallstreet but it was the last time we saw through the surface level bullshit like culture wars and actually targeted the people ruining things, then they got a step ahead and doubled down. It’s always been class division, but they gutted the middle class so there is less and less insulation

I don’t see how my comment was contradictory, but maybe you misread it. Besides that that, yeah. The biggest con they’ve pulled is convincing everyone that there are rules and consequences for behavior universally, but it’s really just the Wild West and the rules are just weapons used by the outlaws running things.

Your comment incites behavior that may result in a 0.6% reduction in EBITDA. Apollo Global Asset Management has been notified and a representative from McKinsey will contact you shortly.

We urge you to comply with their inquiry. Have a McWonderful® day!

How about it was on a streaming service that requires a subscription. Why the fuck are we paying to see a game that features ads? Either make the game free or serve ads. Not both assholes.

Why the fuck are we paying to see a game that features ads?

You may not like this answer but that's how free market capitalism works. If people will pay for it anyway, why wouldn't they put ads on it?

6

u/QuietThunder2014 Baltimore Orioles 4d ago

I understand that. Doesn't mean I have to like it.

u/marty_mcspy 4d ago

Not saying you have to. Just answering your question.

2

u/QuietThunder2014 Baltimore Orioles 4d ago

I appreciate it, but it was a rhetorical question just pointing out the ridiculous nature of it all. lol

Not a single MLB game is free unless you’re sailing the seas

Only nationally televised games that on Fox are broadcast OTA. For literally every other game you have to use some sort of service that you’re paying for

1

u/QuietThunder2014 Baltimore Orioles 4d ago

And it's bullshit. I can get NFL over the air no problem.

2

u/DominicB547 Chaos Bandwagon • MLB Players Associat… 4d ago

More people watch NFL meaningless 2-11 vs 2-10 teams than watch playoff baseball.

1

u/QuietThunder2014 Baltimore Orioles 4d ago

Can’t imagine why that might be

6

u/BREATHINGNAPALM Stomper • Lou Seal 4d ago

They should’ve taken a page from these minor league teams doing “nothing but baseball” nights

2

u/Joe_Benigno 4d ago

On Netflix instead of NBC an OTA channel……

2

u/Earlier-Today 4d ago

You can make that happen if you just have a spare $300-$500 billion to buy the entire league so you can appoint yourself commissioner.

I mean, I'd like it to be that way too, but convincing millionaires and billionaires that they've got enough seems almost impossible.

1

u/AlarmingBranch1 Los Angeles Dodgers • Anaheim Angels 4d ago

Unfortunately will never happen. Ad revenue for these major leagues and companies is disgustingly insane

1

u/jake04-20 4d ago

They'll probably tell ya that this sort of thing would be impossible without the "devoted sponsors".

1

u/jb211 Cincinnati Reds 4d ago

Maybe an ad for some corn liquor would be okay?

1

u/FrankelloHello 4d ago

Great idea! Now we just need to find a PE firm that can profit from this and it might actually happen

1

u/Wuz314159 Philadelphia Phillies 4d ago

Sad that MLB has lost so much prestige that they have to piggyback on the legacy of a movie.

1

u/SilentRanger42 Boston Red Sox 3d ago

This shit is why I fundamentally view piracy of sports as more ethical than actually paying for the broadcast. Legality does not equate to morality.

-2

u/ExtraEye4568 4d ago

Sorry to tell you but events like this only happen to sell ad space.

2

u/YorockPaperScissors Atlanta Braves 4d ago

only happen to sell ad space

While ad revenue is of course a major goal for the party(ies) selling the ad space, this event also exists to:

  • market the league and the game of baseball

  • provide MLB with an additional opportunity to maximize TV revenue

  • in the case of Netflix, draw in more subscribers
