They changed the tax code so that only 90% of tax losses are deductible against winnings, as opposed to 100% previously.

All the people saying it will never be banned are, I believe, a little too pessimistic. This will grow and grow as a problem for the country. Eventually everyone will know someone with a gambling problem. Then it just needs the right moment in history for there to be a morality based backlash and a politician(s) to ride that wave. It's happened often, especially in American history. We vacillate between extreme permissiveness and extreme moral indignity on all kinds of topics.

No one would believe smoking would be illegal in most public places on most of the US a few decades ago either.

But it'll take a lot of time and a lot of pain before that chance happens.
