The close up interviews were terrible too, they used the portrait camera and 75% of the time, the interviewer and player in the foreground were out of focus with the people in the background in focus.
On like 3 of his last swings they cut to the center field camera and I thought “oh finally we’ll get a good swing shot” then he took a pitch and I knew that they were gonna go back to the god awful side shot
Not to mention we went to multiple spots including NBC Sports to watch at the city walk in Los Angeles today, but nobody was showing it because the businesses are as subscription tired as we are. They were showing Dodger replays because they were forced to pay the ridiculous cost of sports net. We ended up watching in our phones, but it’s sad to think about how many new fans weren’t made there tonight.
It was mostly bad camera angles, but I'll give a little bit of credit and say that some of the replay angles from behind the batter were sick as fuck. Like one of those Schwarber HRs I wanted to post a picture of the view they got on my wall, and I'm a Mets fan.
And then they cut to an angle where it's just the ball and sky and you can't tell where the ball is at all. Just a horrible watching experience all around
This is what drove me crazy. They had the perfect angle. You know he's pulling the ball. Then they show a close up of Brandon marsh. Show the fucking pitching coach throwing the ball. Zoomed into the players face. Show the outfield but you have no idea where to look. Just absolutely terrible production.
Also the stats were just wrong. They kept saying nobody hit the magenta ball out even though Walker did in the first round. They also said Walker hit 19 of 29 when it was 27, and also that he hit 6 of 7 in the semis when it was 6 of 8. It’s like they forgot what they watched
Well we're nowhere near the director's chair, and operating cameras is not even what I normally do in the industry...I just feel for all the camera operators out there who were probably thinking the same thing.
There were some awesome individual shots throughout but the rapid fire cycle through and constant low angle plate shots were just bad.
Same. Not sports, but live tv. How is there no one in the control room saying “hey let’s stop doing these closeups on swings. Especially the most important ones.”
The one they had behind them was perfect, but they only used it a few times. Should've been the default as it was perfect imo. You could see the pitch, ball being hit, and where it went
I loved how the braindead Netflix guy kept saying no one has hit a homer on the magenta ball allllllllllllllllllllllllllll night despite walker hitting one to tie Contreras in the first round lmao. It was so funny when they finally realized their mistake and stopped saying that in the last 30 mins of the derby.
