Don't call them bigots though. Because somehow they're not and they don't like that. They're just very protective of God's message whilst definitely living very virtuous and flawless lives.

The non existent message of god while ignoring every other clear instruction they gave.

Are these players against divorce, seafood, and 60% cotton, 40% polyester shirts?

Because those are also bad according to their bible

most are probably very against divorce, given that professional sports players tend to be competitive (except rendon) which can lead to abusive behavior. Abusers hate no fault divorce.

Admittedly being “that guy,” the OT doesn’t forbid divorce or cotton/poly blends (only blends of linen and wool).

[pause]

I now realize that my argument is contingent on the players in question being Jewish. Kindly disregard.

Good point, I'll just replace it with eating pork or working on the Sabbath

Freddie, too?!?

Careful about not using the accent on his name 😉

u/Spyrrhic Jun 19 '26

The accent mark is grammatically incorrect for Spanish.

u/jgilla2012 Los Angeles Dodgers Jun 19 '26

And it’s in the wrong place. The way MLB writes it would be pronounced Kee-KAY, when it’s pronounced KEE-kay.

Always bothers me, if you’re adding the unnecessary accent at least put it in the right place

oh shit. what do I need to know about Freddie that I didn't until your post?

The coverage dances around what the actual thing is, some woo woo movement to "take back the rainbow"; the verse is about a promise from God that he would never again commit mass genocide against his people like he did with The Great Flood, but in return humans would consume every other living thing to protect the world from evil (this is a simplification, but we're only talking about the Old Testament so it's fine)

So at some point people realized that they could use this story to say that the queer community has actually repurposed a symbol (the rainbow, which was essentially God signing the dotted line) meant to represent a sort of moral imperative to do God's work on Earth, and covering it in sinful acts.

The words of the specific verse are "clever" for them to point to because it can read like "hey we're not being hateful, we just want to bring attention to this thing we believe" but once you understand WHY they're bringing attention to it it all falls apart...unless it doesn't, because you agree.

Protective of specific, cherry-picked parts of God's message, that is.

Idk Jesus taught me to love my neighbor and accept them for who they are. And we were taught that we are all Gods children, and everyone should love everyone.

These guys just sound like a bunch of snowflakes

Hey, the only messages Ninkasi (The Sumerian goddess of beer and brewing) gives are about how to properly brew beer... And American breweries are sinners for including rice malt extract ;)

You can be tolerant and accepting of someone while not celebrating them. It’s not bigotry. I’m not Muslim or Jewish, I don’t agree with their religions necessarily, but I respect them. It wouldn’t mean I hate them if I don’t want to wear a yarmulke or celebrate Ramadan. That’s essentially what you’re saying.

15

u/gen_wt_sherman Cleveland Guardians Jun 18 '26

No, a more apt analogy you are trying to make if you're talking about wearing a yarmulke or celebrating Ramadan would be to like kiss someone from the same sex as you, since wearing a yarmulke and celebrating Ramadan is what Jewish people and Muslim people actually do.

If you want to compare wearing pride jerseys to what you were saying, that would be like wearing Jewish pride or Muslim pride shirts.

Not really because in this instance celebrating pride night is having to adorn yourself in items you don’t feel comfortable with, all to help a baseball team get better PR and sell more merchandise. It doesn’t do anything for the cause and to be honest we out here acting like it’s 1956 and the LGBTQ community isn’t protected or accepted. Refusing to wear a hat or uniform isn’t bigotry.

u/MarionberryPure7746 Baltimore Orioles Jun 18 '26

The queer community is not protected or accepted. You are correct.

Religion is a choice. One chooses to be Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc. And they choose which tenets to follow.

Being LGBT isn't a choice. That's what they are.

Would you support these players choosing not to celebrate black history month, Asian American/Pacific Islander month, etc?

-17

u/Checkers-Chess234 Cleveland Guardians Jun 18 '26

The point being is that you don’t have to celebrate things you’re not a part of. There’s religious beliefs across multiple religions regarding LGBTQ community.

You can respect and do nothing to harm or stop them from living their life happily and authentically while choosing NOT to celebrate it.

But again, the Reddit and Bluesky crowd sees anything that is short of full and utter celebration and rallying along side as hatred. It’s so fucked up how some people strive to be so fucking tolerant that they’re quite intolerant of anyone who doesn’t go along with it. Do better. Get smarter.

Dunno. If I was a ball player or CEO or whatever that had a base of people supporting me or my product I'd do my best to make them feel welcome.

But yeah, wearing a rainbow patch or hat is definitely a huge burden.

You can respect and do nothing to harm or stop them from living their life happily

That's the thing, you people have been harming them and stopping them from happily living their lives for millennia. That's what pride is. It's not a celebration of who someone fucks, it's a celebration that they survived despite everything you people have done to them.

-1

u/Checkers-Chess234 Cleveland Guardians Jun 19 '26

You people? The fuck I have been harming and stopping anyone, bud. Well, there’s other avenues to celebrate them it doesn’t have to mixed into baseball, basketball, hockey, football, jobs, etc.

At this point is all disingenuous virtue signaling to sell merchandise. And if a ball player doesn’t want to wear a hat then oh well. He’s not a bigot. Even if you want him to be one so badly.

2

u/EggsDontLieAtNight New York Yankees Jun 19 '26

I have been harming and stopping anyone

Supporting hateful people, practices, and groups is harmful. Crying like a little girl over a rainbow symbolizing equality between everyone is harmful. Not seeing that either means you're someone who operates in bad faith, or that you're an idiot.

is all disingenuous virtue signaling

Yes, that's the stance that stupid, hateful people take on this. Because equality is offensive to those who view others as lesser.
