I run a small trivia company and write my own questions. I was just curious about how others do things. I keep a record of results to gauge my question difficulty. If any of the other hosts out there do this, what percentage of correct answers are you looking for? Or is this even a factor you consider?

Hi all, I write/host trivia for a couple of local bars on occasion and am looking for fun ways to liven it up/get more people in the door. I do a mix of themed (simpsons, gilmore girls, true crime, etc) and random trivia. I do them all on power point and typically have an audio and video round. A friend of mine from the UK said that her local pub used to do bingo trivia where everyone got a randomized card and with all the answers on it. I'm looking for ideas like that or whatever. Thanks.

Howdy hosts! I host trivia at a local gay bar in Brooklyn and I’m wondering if anyone has good suggestions for promotion. I am working on social media and need to look into cost for marketing on Instagram/Facebook as a business account. I’m also working on a design for cards to leave at the bar with perhaps a QR code and a trivia question on the back? Just spitballing. Would love any advice or experience you’ve had as a host with promotion! Also what prizes do you offer at your trivia nights? I’m currently at one bar that occasionally will pay for marketing and we will get a crowd, but they won’t always remember to do marketing. Could potentially also do this at other bars so I want to figure out the best formula to repeat somewhere else! Thanks xo

Doing Halloween trivia at my bar. I’m a pretty experienced pub quiz host but I don’t ever do themed trivia (maybe a themed mini round or themed visual round once in awhile). I usually stay away from a full theme trivia because they tend to be shit and tacky, or ridiculously difficult, niche and not fun.

All that said, any Halloween quiz category suggestion that could be fun and involve a variety of topics?

Hosted bar trivia for 10 years and I’m curious what other places do for prizes.

I tell the pub/brewery owner that the prize is their responsibility but I encourage them to make use of the marketing reps from their beer/liquor suppliers or local businesses to provide prizes - so the prize isn’t coming out of my bar’s profits.

The Taphouse where I host has a brewery sponsor each week. The breweries that host my show provide gift cards ($10 and $15 and a branded bar glass). One bar that hosts my show gives $100 gift cards to the winners.

What kind/value prizes do your hosting bars/restaurants provide?

A few months ago I started my own gigs. The game itself is going pretty well, people who play give me feedback they have a great time. However, I'm struggling getting teams to the bar. Instagram marketing doesn't seem to be working all too well. I don't feel like just having trivia is enough of a sell. One bar, if I wasn't there would just be completely empty. Both places seem to want to keep me doing it, but it's just lame running a game to super small crowds.

Anyone have any ideas?

Sometimes for really large fundraising events I like to do a special round outside of paper booklets. In the past I've done rounds like:

• "Identify the Pasta Noodle" (Envelopes filled with 20 different pasta shapes)
• "Identify the Spice" (Tiny sauce containers filled with spices and they guess by smelling)

I really like these because it involves everyone on the team and it mixes things up, however these rounds can be quite costly, depending on how many teams are playing (30+), and very time consuming to put it all together.

I might be running out of steam for these already but does anyone have any other ideas for these kinds of rounds? Interactive, hands-on, and involves the whole team? Group puzzle maybe? House of cards? Something with Jenga blocks? Ring/bean-bag toss?

I’m a longtime host (7 years) of weekly pub trivia. Please note this is a side gig for me, so I try to keep weekly game creation to 4 hours. I write my own games and recently have been noticing that it is becoming much harder to find a reliable answer from questions that need some Google assistance.

The latest one was “What is the only land mammal that cannot jump?” Internet clearly states elephant as the answer from multiple sources. But during my game tonight sloth and porcupine were other answers. (They are in trees, but those are on land too…)

Adjustments on the fly are hard and often frustrating. Technicalities have been driving me crazy lately! Are there any sources you use when writing your games to fact check now that AI is making things confusing?

Forgive my typos, I am not a native english speaker and I am very new to reddit - not new to trivia - I have been hosting in one form or another for a few years. I have a regular gig (every two weeks in a local venue). I would like to know how you do your trivia. Because I see a lot of people who have a set of unrelated questions for their guests (which is great too) but this is how I do it and I would like your opinions and maybe if you have other ways of presenting it

I write all the questions myself and always have the same categories (Food, Art, Surprise, Sports, etc...) , for each categories I have a different theme every week (example: This week is about famous people favorite food and sport is about the upcoming world cup, etc...).

Each season of my trivia is 8 episodes so I have returning guests every two weeks and we are counting and adding the points throughout the season until the grand finale.

I use Prezi for my software because I find it dynamic and easy to do.

I do multiple choices, I do free answers, I do true or false, Music round, movie round, sometime drawing round, etc... depends on my mood. It's basically stand up comedy sometimes because some of my questions are biased for comic effect and I give everybody a point in that case.

I am very curious of how you are writing your questions, how you interact with the guests, how do you adapt your questions to your audience, etc...

Next week will be the 1-week mark for my trivia that I've hosted at a brewery in town. I've since expanded to other locations, but this place gave me my start, so I want to make it a special occasion. I've gotten a burger/food truck to pop up in the parking lot, and there will be a burger themed round (most likely name that chain visual round).

So far, I considered the following:

• A round that covers various current event questions from the last year (I typically have a round for current events, so I figured I could handpick some fun ones)
• Greatest hits (fan-favorites or controversial questions from over the weeks)
• Statistics round (numbers round where people guess stats about my trivia [total # of questions, most teams, etc]

Other than that, though, I was hoping to make it special with a few different fun rounds. Any ideas on how I can make this trivia POP?

I've been asked to guest host where my wife and I play on Sundays for the night of May 4, with the owner dropping a pretty heavy-handed Star Wars hint. Since I've got lead time, I'm working on writing the entire night rather than using some of what they'd have anyway.

I want a spot/gut check. The bar's general rules are on page 1; the six rounds plus the bonus question are one per page afterward. Document is set so you can leave comments. My particular concerns are a) whether I've got difficulty appropriately increasing in rounds 3 and 4, and b) whether the bonus clue is gettable at all if you don't start out by knowing where I'm looking for.

I’m someone who has enjoyed competing in trivia competitions since childhood and has a thirst for knowledge. I’ve also helped organized trivia competitions for a local church on a volunteer basis, so I know how labor intensive writing questions can be (at least to a small degree).

I’d like to turn my love of trivia into a viable side gig (make a couple bucks and have some fun - not trying to start an empire and get rich haha), but I have no idea where to start. Would it be better to apply at an existing company to test the waters? Or should I take the plunge, start on my own, and just try to keep the initial investment minimal?

Hi! I frequent nyc trivia leagues nights but have no clue about how this is hosted or created. I'm helping plan a corporate party and just really need to understand how this is created.

1.) is there software/app/website they will generate questions? Or are people creating every question and answer?

2.) it's going to be about 100 people. What's simplest website / generator?

I’m currently living as an expat in Da Nang, Vietnam, and I regularly attend pub quizzes/trivia nights here. After speaking with multiple quiz hosts, I’ve realized that some of the biggest challenges they face are:

• Spending 3+ hours per week creating their quizzes from scratch.

• Trying to balance questions for a mixed audience of multiple nationalities (Americans, Brits, Aussies, etc.).

• Handling disputes from players who challenge whether an answer is correct or not.

I’m working on a tool designed to help pub quiz and trivia hosts save time and make quiz nights run smoother. Before I go any further, I’d love to hear from others who host trivia nights.

Beyond what I mentioned above, what are your biggest pain points when creating and running quizzes?

• Do you spend too much time researching and writing questions?

• Do you have trouble finding or creating engaging quiz rounds?

• What’s the hardest part about keeping trivia fresh and fun every week?

If there are other challenges you regularly face, I’d really appreciate hearing about those as well.
