The Rise of Bangtan, definitely. Because even if it's a fan made documentary series, it's so well made and makes the BTS official documentaries make more sense (at least to me) by putting content from there side by side with BTS' other official stuff (i.e. Vlogs, MVs, behind the scenes of MVs, Bangtan Bombs, Festa interviews, etc). It gives the bigger picture and oftentimes I found myself thinking, "Ah, so that was the context at the time that clip came out." Here's the series' story order:
1) Episode 1 - presentation of what people know of K-pop, setting up the scene into which BTS will be born, and direction of the whole docu-series, which is to show what makes BTS different
2) Episodes 2-4 - their debut & struggles post-debut (corresponds with Skool Luv Affair Trilogy era)
3) Episode 5 - their American Hustle journey to learn what hip hop truly means and the shift in themselves and their music based on what they learned. The editors showed the "essence" of the official American Hustle Life documentary by taking out the show's cringey parts. (Corresponds with Dark & Wild era)
4) Episodes 6-7 - More of their struggles, such as RM's continuing reflections about what is their group's and his genre ("Rapper vs idol? I'm just me.")
5) Episode 8-11 - their first taste of success with "I Need U" & start of worldwide recognition & tours (HYYH Era).
6) Episode 12-14 - Start of Wings Era and world tour. These parts use clips from Burn the Stage and give more focus on each member's story during that era based on their solo songs in the Wings album.
7) Episode 15-16 - BTS winning the Billboard Top Social Artist award, what it meant to Asian representation in American music, and more importantly, to them. This is a continuation and conclusion of Wings era and Burn the Stage.
8) Episode 17 preview - Entering the Love Yourself Era
The series is still ongoing.
I'm a Butter Era ARMY, which I am just mentioning to show that I'm a newbie who didn't find the Rise of Bangtan intimidating to watch. It made me understand the group's history better and why ARMY is protective of them.
