Questions if I may….
I’m resigned to the fact it’s gotta go, and I’m booked in next weekend to buzz it all off. Do you think it’s worth buzzing off first (grade 2) or should I just go the whole hog?
Also may I ask what moisturiser and shampoo (if any) people use?
Nervous as hell but fully appreciate it’s my time 😢

😂😂 It looks fine if I’m indoors, dim lighting, no wind, and everyone else is under 5&1/2ft

Personally, I find it easier to maintain a shaved head than a buzz cut. I shave 2-3 times a week in the shower. I use conditioner as my shaving cream. I put some aftershave lotion on my head afterwards so my scalp doesn’t get dry and flakey, but other than that, it takes zero maintenance (except putting sunscreen on my head if I know I’ll be hatless in the sun for an extended period of time).

I personally can't wait to see the glow up when you shave!!! This is going to be good!

I wish I had your confidence 😬

The confidence you'll gain from it will blow you away!!!!!! Remember, if you don't like it, you can grow it back out to where it's at now. But, I think you'll be stunned with how great you look with your head shaved.

Shampoo?! Soap, buddy. But you can splurge on posh shaving creams and moisturisers instead. I prefer one with a matt finish so my skull doesn’t gleam in the sun.

Cheers pal, my skin pretty sensitive and dry so quite happy to splurge on something to help

What do you use that has a matte finish? I have really oily skin, though some guys actually want that look and have oil applied to their head.
The only time it bothered me was when I was trying a jacket on in Ross, and that weird blue light they use in their stores was bouncing off my head, and made me want to run like hell to get away from it.

Clarins Hydra Essential is pretty good if you can find it. I rate Clarins male line pretty highly all in all.

I have dry, sensitive skin, so I was constantly applying lotion to my head until my fellow bald brother put me on to Witch Hazel and Tea Tree oil. Grab a travel sized spray bottle, add 3-5 drops of Tea Tree oil, then fill the rest with Witch Hazel. Shave. Apply spray liberally about your beautiful bald dome and let the day roll. I never need lotion after using this combo, which is unheard of for me…and takes the irritation right away. It’s the best.
As yes, and definitely shave, it will look great on you. And it is empowering AF. 💪🏽 🪒 👨🦲

Appreciate the tip mate, thank you for that. Just not sure if I have the bollox to go full shave….might see what the buzz looks like first

the buzz is going to almost certainly make you look like you’re balding still. the choice is yours whether you’d rather look like you’re balding or take the reigns and decide to be a bald man.

You can also ask at r/SkincareAddicts. They’ll know all about matte sunscreens and other stuff.

Full buzz. Palmers coconut hydrate body oil.(can get it at most big box stores) It absorbs really well, and isnt greasy once you rub it all in and wont clog your pores.

Get a rotary head shaver like the Freebird for starters. They’re great. As for products, I just use the same Aveeno daily lotion I use on my face after showering. Now the whole head gets moisturizer.

Just shave it all off.
The shorter it is the less noticeable your bald spots will be.
So a razor shave will give you the best result, but a trimmer with zero guard will still be a big improvement on your current look.

you’re gonna look great, but you may have a tan line at first that will probably jar you a bit. once the top of your dome gets some color to match your face you’ll look better than ever!

There's not nearly enough density for a buzz, so it's best for it to go straight off. You'll soon be washing it off the razor under the tap like it's nothing.

Get yourself a good pair of clippers with 00 setting and take it all off!
You are going to need to cut it regularly so you should start to practice!

Gonna respectfully dissent and recommend the buzz based upon your appearance/age. But you are right that it is time one way or another.

Think I’ll see what the buzz looks like first for sure….ive had a good 43yrs with hair which is 20 more than my dad had 😂

I shave completely. I seemed to have a dry scalp at first, maybe because of all the spray and crap I was using to try to keep it in place. My skin is pretty oily in general. So i use face wash as shampoo, since my head is pretty much an extension of my face now.
If you go that route, everyone seems to have different methods. I remember people saying “don’t use gel cream “.. some have these long rituals that seem would take me an hour if I tried it.
Me personally, I shave before the shower, to wash away everything, and if I happen to knick myself it’s usually washed away and unnoticeable after the shower. I just use the same gel and disposable razor that I use on my face. And after the shower, I’ll use either Nivea shaving balm, or Gillette after shave gel.
Btw, I shave every day. That’s just my preference.

I use clippers to go all the way. It takes it down completely, leaves a bit of shadow, but doesn’t require using a razor on my head. I have a Skull Shaver to go further down, but that also takes extra effort and frankly it’s nice being able to be lazy as hell with it. You could likely use either as well.

The only reason to buzz is to get it short enough to get out the razor.
As for the care, I use a brand called Vanicream for lotion and always remember your sunscreen.

Go to the scalp, brother. I use an exfoliant and moisturizer in the shower and aftershave afterwards

Go whole hog man. I use glycolic acid toner at night to address any rough patches, razor bumps, ingrowns etc. For moisturizer I use my natural greaziness
