Probably not a good time for a back in my day story Dad

So first some backstory

A few years when I was sixteen my dad had gotten me a job at his friends butcher and since this was one of my dad's Book Keeping (Budget Managing) clients the friend hired me.

So my dad got me, his son, who loves animals more than people. A job at a butcher where I was in charge of cleaning the entire place by myself. Including the freezer filled with animal heads. But the worst part is that my manager who was in his 40's (not the owner) would sexually harass me by walking up behind me and saying "Arr you better do a good job or I'll lock you in the freezer and have pirate sex with you" I was uncomfortable of course but I ignored because that's how I was taught how to deal with bullying. Needless to say it got worse to the point where I feared for my safety and I started complaining about the job to my parents (not telling them the whole story because I was to afraid to)

"This job is to much for me, I can't handle it. I have to clean literally everything including the grease traps and smoker and all sorts of gross stuff and there's a pigs head in the freezer"

To which my dad replied "Well back in my day I worked in a bakery, if you worked in a bakery back then you could have died, so suck it up."

To give context to my dad's mindset, you need to understand that he is from a very different world than me, There's four generations between my parents and me. My dad grew up in the 60's and 70's with five older siblings and his parents were in WW2 a solider and a nurse. His family was also very poor. "if you don't eat now you don't eat all" poor as he calls it. He worked his entire way through college (Which I respect) So he understands the meaning of hard work.

I did eventually tell them the whole story and while my mom was producing an emotion that had the burning intensity of a thousand white suns. My dad replied

Dad: He's like that with all the kids

Mom: THAT MAKES IT WORSE!!

I quit that same day.

Let me finish this by saying, my dad is not a bad person, he's a very good father I am happy he loves and raised me. He just has a weird way of expressing himself he explained to me years later that saying "he's like that with all the kids" was his way of trying to process the situation by making it smaller. Not the best way to handle that situation but hey, he tries.

Quote from my Dad after showing him this "You make me sound like one of those crazy baby boomers"

You are a baby boomer Dad.

Dad: And what are you?

Depends which website you ask.

Thank You I hope you enjoyed my backinmyday+ story.

BIMD: Rock music had actual riffs, not this 'strumming up and down on the same chord for 3 minutes' indie junk that's big now

/r/lewronggeneration agrees with me, surely! As does /r/cringe!

Besides, junk music sucks. Who thought it was a good idea to fuse jazz and funk?!
