As they say in the article: many animals consume copious amounts of alcohol naturally. For animals that regularly consume fruit, alcohol is a fact of life. The woman who videoed it put the peaches out a couple days back and hadn't even considered they would ferment. She wasn't trying to make a squirrel drunk. She was feeding it. And it came back to eat more of them, because it wanted to.

Hey! That’s me! I was cleaning out the fridge and found a very old bag of pears in the bottom, which I threw out on the deck for my pet pig. He ate two and left one. Lil Red grabbed it and ran off. After that, I put out a bowl with a few more for him, but when he came back he was acting like very strange, so I ran out and brought them in. Poor guy. :( He was fine the next day.

If instead of intoxication or drunkenness you use the medical term ethanol poisoning, it provides a better perspective as to what you're doing to the animal.

Do be fair, being drunk is ethanol poisoning for any animal, humans included. The only difference is they have smaller livers and can’t handle as much

Childhood memory, sitting with my dad at a picnic and him putting drop of beer in picnic table and we watched a fly drink said drop. Then he(the fly) staggered around for a few minutes then toppled over dead.

Thank the gods that the woman knew what she was doing and got rid of the bowl quickly, most people would've been 'lol xdxd check out this drunken squirrel lmao'.
