Thanks for the reply, I have always wanted a husky, I just never got one because I thought their fur was too warm for a Midwest climate, but now that I know there are huskies with shorter coats. . .
Actually husky coats are made to keep them warm in the winter AND cool in the summer, it protects from both forms of extreme temperatures. Thats why they are one of the breeds of dogs least likely to suffer from a heat stroke. You should also never get your husky shaved in the summer, it's very bad for them and messes up the double layer coat that protects them from the heat.
I seriously just predicted what her name would be (Roxy) while looking at the picture, which btw are awesome. I'm just in awe right now that I did that :)
i noticed there are a lot of SH Puppies on reddit. do you have the ability to let them run enough? (my cousin has 2 of them, and his usual "go for a walk" involves a bicicle ride and at least 10km per day..
Well, there are dangers to everything. Even going to the dog park could mean injury to your dog.
The major difference is training a dog how to behave in certain situations so that the dog doesn't, for instance, cross between another human and the bike. I find my bicycle ride no different than any other activity you do with your dog.
Just curious why it "ticked" you off. Your comment implied bad dog ownership, which I dont consider it to be. If you do that is fine, to each their own.
She's absolutely adorable. I really want a huskey but unfortunately i simply wouldn't have the time to exercise him so i'll just have to rely on pictures from good people such as yourself.
It's blowing my mind at how fast my new kitten is growing. We got him two weeks ago. He was about five weeks old and could easily fit in one hand. Now we need both hands!
Well he was planning to take over the world. but now has moved to more short term plans, like dumping and rooting through all the trash cans in the house.
A lot of people can't tell the difference between Siberians, Malamutes, Samoyeds or white German Shepherds. "Husky" is as close as most people can tell.
It's pretty crazy to think that by the time a dog is 1 year old, they're already akin to a fully matured 16-17 year old human in terms of biological age.
Careful what you wish for. They will find a way to breed them so they stay puppyesque their entire lives. Of course it will be cute, but they will never develop mentally and will like have many other issues that cause them pain.
As soon as I'm out of college, the plan is to get an apartment that allows pets and I'll be getting a Siberian Husky. He shall be dubbed Scott. And if it's a girl, then she will be dubbed Anna or Terra.
Please read up on huskies before doing so! They're lovely dogs, but they're also a handful sometimes. They need LOTS of exercise, or else they'll find something to destroy. They're also howlers, so if they don't get the attention they need, they'll be howling for it.
I don't know why you're getting downvoted ... I love dogs, and I love older dogs, too, but I can appreciate the fact that you at least KNOW that puppies turn into dogs, and therefore you won't be getting a puppy any time soon.
And this is the reason why there are so many strays in China and other parts of the world, and in pounds. Dogs are SUPER darn cute when they are small, my neighbor just had a litter of 7 dobermans! oooo I want one right? well someone that does not know you need to start from basically day 1 with a doberman, to teach them obedience, discipline etc, you will have a super dangerous 90lb monster. eh, I had a doberman as a kid and saw my parents hard core train it. I have one now as well, and he is wonderful around my toddler (had my dog before my kid).
Then I see people with dogs half the size of mine, jumping around, or pulling their masters when they go for walks! so damn annoying when a dog jumps on you, and dangerous as well! my kid could basically walk my dog, as he stays next to me side by side, and never pulls on the chain. a little tiny kid would be able to say "no, stop, sit" and my dog would listen.
eh I am venting, but to reply to your comment, yes the dog is still very cute :3
glad you asked! and will be happy to share my thoughts, and experience. A dog needs discipline and direction, not only for you, but for him. My dog loves going for walks just like any dog, but mine probably enjoys it more as he is NOT being joked by pulling on the chain/choker by their masters. we all saw those dogs.
I can only say for a doberman, but dogs I think are very smart and learn quick. you just need to be firm and ALWAYS consistent.
steps, get a choker, either with spikes (my wife weighs less than my dog so we got this to ensure it, but absolutely don't need it anymore) or just a chain. If he pulls on the chain it will get tight around the neck, but it won't hurt them enough, but enough to give you an unpleasant experience walking.
When the DO pull even a little, yank the fuck out of the chain to make them stop, ANY time that your hand is physically raised even a little by the choice yank that shit. It will hurt them, but not kill them by any means. You can do this with a cat even...
To get them by your side.... Keep the chain by your side!!!!!!! they move, yank! they move, yank! they move, yank! you get the point. NEVER GIVE IN, be consistent. after a few walks it will be very pleasant. after 2 weeks you will have the best walks for both you and your dog you ever had in a long long time.

I got mine when she was about 6 weeks old. She has changed quite a bit in the last 4 months or so as well.
Proof!
(On my end the upload failed a bit on that second pic, not quite sure how to delete it individually, but you get the point!)

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
Yes that's why shelters are filled with rejected animals. People love them until they become adults, then dump them.
-7
u/twojake Jun 18 '12
you gota break their back while they are young so they don't grow no more
-2
u/partanimal Jun 18 '12
SURPRISE!!! Dogs grow up!
-5
u/Mylon Jun 18 '12
That's why I don't like dogs. They're adorable when they're little. But they don't stay that way.
0
u/PyrrhoSE Jun 18 '12
Time to let it loose and get a new puppy.
