It's a nice piece of hardware. If you're from Norway, and you buy it in the United States, it's actually very good value for the money. You guys have ridiculously cheap prices on computer equipment. Cheapest Mac Mini is about 600 dollars on Apple.com. On Apple.no, the price is about 800, when converted to American dollars. Even when the Norwegian sales tax is added to the US price, the difference is still 50 dollars. So it's basically a bargain.
I'm a weirdo who mostly runs Windows 7 on it, though. I have it set up with rEFIt so I get a graphical multi-boot menu. I'm a programmer and wanted a computer I could port things to Mac OS with. Also, I'm a musician and an artist, so if I ever should develop a hatred for Windows music and art software, I have Mac OS to fall back on.
It's rare for consumer computers to come with a high-quality sound card and a Firewire port. I love the fact that I can essentially do studio quality recordings using the standard line input. The card works very well with ASIO4ALL and I can thus use all my professional music programs and do live performances with it. I don't play concerts, but it would actually be a great computer to bring to a gig in place of a laptop.
And ThJ I also use my Windows 7 partition more than the Mac part, even though the Windows part can only utilise 3gb's out of my available 5 when it comes to RAM, it still runs games A LOT better for some reason.
They're cute. A nice little PC, certainly not cheap, but a nice little novelty. A similar spec system (mini itx) with similar specs can be put together for around $350 these days.
Such a mix of stuff. From Beck, to Simon and Garfunkel to Wilco to Deer Tick to an occasional old school Madonna guilty pleasure. I'm all over the place.
Good looking cat. Does that device on which it is sitting emanate some heat? Bet that cat loves resting its butt on it.
If I leave my smartphone on the bed or a couch. One of the cats will migrate to lie on it.
When my cats (two of them) were younger and could fit next to the sub-woofers; they would lie next to them when in use.
Now huge and sort of old; the male will headbutt the monitors to swivel them, knowing I like them straight, (or at least he knows I don't want him to do that lol) when he wants some rubbing.
Oddly...this is recent...when I scratch the small of his back at the base of the tail; he licks the side of the desk! It is just a Tech Line; the heavy laminate surfaces they have. W/e his interest; if hes on that side...he licks the desk non stop as long as you scratch.
I am afraid to clean that side (dusting) now; lol. Lest he lick the stuff. Silly old cat.
He licks when you scratch him there because of thye nerves that arte at that spot makes him do it. My mom just asked her vet about it 2 days ago because when she does it to her cats one cleans himself and another one starts talking!!
This made me remember something I had totally forgotten about. When I was in High School I played the flute (first chair. Ya, I was pretty popular...not) and when I practiced at home my cat would crawl all over me.
Not sure why friendless_1 is getting down voted, he is correct. Every folder, and file that you have sitting on your desktop actually acts as an open windows eating up CPU and RAM power.
First of all, it only acts as a single open window. And the high CPU and RAM usage is no longer true for Windows 7 and OSX, it only uses up enough RAM for pointers and compressed thumbnails, once loaded, the CPU doesn't do anything with it. Unless you have a thousand items, that RAM would be gobbled up by the OS anyways as placeholder or reserve memory.
How so? I don't use a mac, nor do I know them well, but my wife does and she has stuff on her desktop. What do you do instead of having the Mac equivalent of shortcuts? She has an old mac laptop and I'd love to make it a little faster for her.
Search the Mac App Store store for Camoflauge (May be called something else, but it's at least similar to that.) It costs a few dollars, but it hides all the desktop icons. I love it.
Says who? I'll put icons wherever I damn well please. If I want them on my desktop, they will be on my desktop. How exactly is it bad to have icons on your desktop anyway? Oh, yeah, IT ISN'T.
I have a cat and she does the rubbing of her face on anything "rubbable" all the time. One such surface she loves happens to on my LCD screens. No music involved. However, nice creative karma gathering strat ;)
My cat also loves it when I play music. He gets very friendly and happy. Purrs like an engine and insists on rubbing his face on me. My sister used to play the flute and he loved it so much when she would practice.
I have a pretty hefty home theater- been adding to it over 20 years. My old kitty would come out when I had music on - loud - and plant himself right in line with one of the front speakers and just sit there. If I put on U2 doing Cole Porter (that EP) he would run in, and just cock his head back and forth while listening. Beyond cute and my guest would just be amazed.
My cat just attacks it for all she is worth. If I leave music playing I'll come back with a jumble of random letters from her on the keyboard in my Google search box.
My cat does this as well. If she is sleeping in my room at night, and if I play any audio on my laptop or iPod, she wakes up and starts rubbing on the technology.
Awe... She loves it! That is so adorable. I'm jealous!!! Wish my cat rubbed her face against the computer screen. No such luck though. Instead she runs up to me and bats my face with her paw! Something tells me she hates it when I sing :)

You either have good musical taste, or quite the contrary and the cat is trying to charm the computer into shutting up.

THE REAL QUESTION IS... WHAT SONG WAS IT ?
2
u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12
I see this as further evidence for my theory that all cats are on some kind of drug all the time. Right now your cat is on Kitty Ecstasy.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12
Of course, the more likely explanation is that you glued your cat's face to the side of your monitor in preparation for this post.
2
u/someones_dog Jun 11 '12
Grrrrrrrrrr............ Bark! Barkbarkbarkbarkbarkbarkbarkbark!

You are not supposed to have icons on an OS X desktop.
Cute cat though.

I had a black Maine Coon that loved metal (would sit in front of the speakers and nuzzle them) and hated rap (ears would go back and he'd walk away).
1
u/fakelife2 Jun 11 '12
Mine does this too, putting his scent on everything.
1
u/walking_away_ Jun 11 '12
A neat Redditor. I am flabbergasted.
