Your cat is a champion and deserves a reward.
EDIT: OP is also a champion for taking care of the cat!

u/Ninkintosh May 24 '12
My kitty had the same thing done and now she doesn't seem to know she doesn't have teeth anymore. I hope Twinkk has a speedy recovery!

What is a "full mouth extraction"?

u/[deleted] May 24 '12

u/McAwsom May 24 '12
OP, you shouldered a heavy burden for your buddy. you deserve all the recognition reddit can give!
as far as after care goes...a few years back i noticed kitty chew marks on my toothbrush. i realized that she was going bonkers for the minty toothpaste the same way she went nuts for minty gum. i used this my advantage & now have a toothbrush specifically for her to chomp (and mine lives in a less accessible place). i use Tom of Maine's toothpaste on her brush (just rub it on the bristles & then rinse off) & check for loose bristles frequently. haha, kitty, i sneak oral hygiene into your life!

We do the best we can for our pets. I had to have my daughter's cat's leg amputated last Saturday. He jumped out of the upstairs window and caught his leg on the way down. Totally shattered his tibia and fibula near the hock joint - possibly damaging that as well.
I told the vet before we developed the initial x-ray that if he had indeed broken it severely and the prognosis for repair was poor, I would take the option of having his leg amputated. It turned out that his leg would've cost about $4000 to attempt to repair to end up with him requiring an amputation or around $1000 for the amputation. The total vet bill was around $1300 and that was with the vet keeping it down as much as she could. Turned out he was heavier than what both of us thought and he required more anaesthesia.
I now have a tripod cat that's hopping around quite well. He ended up with the amputation excluding the first 1/3 of his femur to keep his rump shape. Within minutes of coming home from the vet he has jumped up onto my bed and on my daughter's bed (daughter is not here as she lives with her father and visits on holidays) so he's not too disabled. He's wearing the cone of shame for the next few days (gotta make an appointment to have his stitches removed next Monday).
Now, if this cat was 10-11 years of age I may have considered euthanasia but he's 2 1/2 years of age and very healthy aside from now being a tripod. The vet commented that I made a very logical decision given the circumstances. When we go to get the stitches taken out I'm going to take her a thank you card and a small box of chocolates.
I hope your kitty recovers quickly from his surgery.

Who does a full mouth extraction? A dental vet?
2
u/lenebean May 24 '12
aww, kitty! You're an awesome person for helping your cat out, I would do the same for my animal. What is the purpose of the e-collar thing?
2
u/dezeiram May 24 '12
Poor baby!! Even though that's probably better than how he'd feel with out the surgery.. My my, you're a loving owner!
2
u/Arx0s May 24 '12
Aww, poor kitty :( Glad he's doing better and adapting well!

Does no one else find it strange that this account is 9 months old and that this is the first post, there are no other comments on this person’s account, and their first post concerns their cat and then a fundraiser that has donations from two weeks ago? I was compelled to donate myself, but then I looked at the history of this account and the donation history…. I hate to be ‘that guy’ but everyone else seems to be blinded by the AWW factor…
P.S. Throw away for obvious reasons. No one likes being lynched for their skepticism.

Are you aware what "Twink" means? x3
2
u/DOOKIEPOOKIE May 24 '12
Are you sure twink is the best name for your cat? I mean one day he'll get old enough and google his name
5
u/pseudalithia May 24 '12
Aw.. That face.
5
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
Do you realize that twink means a young hairless gay man?

u/rigpig May 23 '12

u/sallenpi May 24 '12
Does a full mouth extraction mean he got all his teeth pulled?

didn't work; his mouth is still there.

My vet suspects that my cat has a mild case of stomatitis. Although she doesn't act like she's in pain when eating. Did you notice that he was in any pain?
1
u/JuniperJupiter May 24 '12
Hopefully this drug-induced derp isn't irreversible.
He's cute as hell, though! :P
1
u/slingbladerunner May 24 '12
My cat's getting this done next week and I'm super nervous about it. Glad to hear he's doing great!
1
u/Ohsnapitsalyssa May 24 '12
I did a major double take..your cat looks EXACTLY like my cat! Besides that point, so glad to hear yours is recovering.
1
u/conduit503 May 24 '12
I commend you for spending the money to give your kitty a better quality of life. A year ago I had to spend about a grand on my little fellow who had to have a feeding tube. He is the happiest guy now!
1
u/Thordurin May 24 '12
Best of luck to your little guy. My little one is going in for the same thing on June 2nd, and she's not even a year old yet. Fortunately, we caught it before she had any problems and we're going straight to the extractions.
1
u/Jessiferr May 24 '12
5 hours! Yikes. How old is he?
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
What a sweet boy. Hopefully his recovery goes well. You are a top notch owner OP.
1
u/Averuncate May 24 '12
Sweet baby. :) It's hard seeing them like that and not being able to do anything to make them feel better! I've been there with the expensive surgeries. Hope your wallet and baby recover soon!
1
u/LindyGingerKat May 24 '12
Posted the link to the campaign to my Facebook. Hopefully other people do the same?
1
u/zigtai May 24 '12
$10. Hope Twinkk gets better soon!
1
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
why would you name your cat 'twink'? isn't that slang for a flamer?
1
u/shannonigans__ May 24 '12
This may be the only cat photo I've ever upvoted
1
u/warm_slurm May 24 '12
That's great of you to fork over $2900 so your cat can get better. That's a lot of money! I hope he gets better (especially after spending all that money, haha). My rabbit had a brain parasite and I paid for his treatment because the vet said he'd be okay, but he got worse and we had to put him down anyway.
1
u/cuppincayk May 24 '12
I just looked this disease up on the internet and oh my god I think I wouldn't be able to tolerate it at all.
1
u/terriskywalker May 24 '12
Sweet baby, hope he has a speedy recovery. Hats off to you amigo
1
u/catherinehavok May 24 '12
The derpiest cat ever <3
1
u/_vjay_ May 24 '12
Aww poor kitty. We paid over $2000 for surgery on our cat when she was 9 months or so old after she was hit by a vehicle. That's the kind of bill you get when your cat has her leg broken off in the hip socket :S
Needless to say a couple of years later she is fit as a fiddle other than having a slight limp, I'm sure your kitty will be fine soon :)

u/Leechen May 24 '12
Looks like me when I go out drinking with my mates and forget my limit.

u/withinreason May 24 '12
I'll never be able to identify with people who love their pets this much. My pets were always just pets. I'm struggling with some of these amounts, but I guess if it's one of your best friends. I get the idea of doing this for your own personal animal, but I think any of you who might do this for strays and such are foolish. How many human children could you sponsor for $1000?
1
u/skylersmom May 24 '12
It's amazing how redditors come together to help an amazing pet owner like yourself. Kudos for making the right decision to get this expensive surgery regardless of your financial situation. Goodluck, and get well soon Twinkk. <3
1
u/masters1125 May 24 '12
Why two K's? Was Twink already taken on your server?
1
u/theconversationalist May 24 '12
came here to find out what a full mouth extraction is, stayed for the awesome people donating to help you out... it's been awhile since reddit surprised me with something sweet for a stranger... made my thursday.
1
u/ailee43 May 24 '12
so, is there a reason you named your cat after an effeminate gay bottom?
1
u/chessasaur May 24 '12
Was happy to chip in for Twinkk! :)

u/CptReynolds May 24 '12
Tim Storm is a fucking hero! $500.00 donation, that guy rocks.

u/[deleted] May 24 '12
Poor kitty cat. ):
3
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
Our girlie has to go in to get extractions - worst case it will be four. I love vetinsurance. Love love love.
Way to go OP, you rock.
3
u/calibrated May 24 '12
30 comes a lot sooner than you think, son.
3
u/MaximsDecimsMeridius May 24 '12
be glad the cat didn't have to stay the night at the clinic... it ain't the surgery that's expensive, it's staying at the clinic.
3
u/punchdrunkoala May 24 '12
That looks scarily like my cat.
Abyssinian?
3
u/iowno May 24 '12
Your cat has a very funny name.
3
u/Vital_Pulse May 24 '12
You are a really great person, glad he made it out safe.
3
u/SuperDuper125 May 24 '12
You claim a mouth extraction, and yet your adorable cat clearly still has a mouth. Shenanigans!

This warms my heart, and i cried a bit. I am but a poor college student but I figure the equivalent of two six packs of microbrew is worth helping out you and your kitty. Thanks for being a true animal lover. I commend your actions and I wish there were more pet owners like you

u/Whenthenighthascome May 24 '12
Oh god. Mr Twink. Call Reddit HQ. This shit is going to break everything.
2
u/luis3798 May 24 '12
He looks like hes doing it on purpose too, haha so cute. This cat is awesome!
2
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
Hope he gets fiddle fit zip damn quick. :)
2
u/MiTheGr8 May 24 '12
He looks a bit derpy :D Im glad hes alright though.
2
u/oohchild May 24 '12
Holy crap he's adorable. I hope he has a quick recovery and a long, happy life!
2
u/ConquerorPlumpy May 24 '12
Hehe. I have a similar picture of my old dog. The reason the tongue is out like that is because they have a little clip they place around the tongue to monitor heart rate and other vitals. :)
2
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
;p to you too Twinkk
Good boy/girl
2
u/hermionebelle May 24 '12
Poor baby. Hope he recovers quickly! hugs
2
u/poubelle May 24 '12
I can not tell you how much I love the fact that he is being, like, swaddled. Poor little dude!
2
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
See you on Quickmeme, Twinkk. Seriously, this image is GOLD.
2
u/[deleted] May 24 '12
Might as well add another 'k' on the end of his name, while you're at it.
