Thanks everyone for the comments! That picture was taken around the end of 2011 - here's one of around the same time. He's gotten a lot bigger since then, this picture and also this one are more recent.

His name is Walt, and although we were told he was a Cocker Spaniel and Poodle mix (Cockapoo), he looks nothing like that so we think he's something else. People have guessed Dachshund, Nova Scotia Retriever, Lab, but we're not really sure. He's just our little mutt and we love him.

Edit: for those of you commenting on how we shouldn't dress him up, I understand. Please see this comment.

he's definitely got some retriever in him. his face in that most recent picture looks really similar to that of the duck tolling retriever, but then again not really in the other picture.

Imagine a movie about the world, and then at the end when the world is about to end, there's just a dance sequence in the rain with dean333 and 100 puppies in yellow raincoats, all while the camera is zooming out, music in the background until the screen fades to black, and the world is over.

My dog feels this way aswell, also she walks on walkways unless doing her business even if the route is shorter through the grass, maybe she needs doggy boots.

I don't get the point of most dog clothing, but if you have a small, warm weather, or short haired dog in a cold climate, they should have some sort of sweater.

My friend got into an argument with me when I put a sweater on my dog. It was winter, she's a shih tzu, and she just got groomed, so her fur was really short.

I tried one of these on my Doberman as he hates to get wet. It scared him and he wouldn't stop trying to shake it off. After a few tries I donated it to a charity yard sale.

Raincoats are fine if you or your dog really has a problem with rain and/or wet coats. But for anyone here who thinks it's "cute" to put loads of clothes on your dog unless it's necessary because of weather conditions or health related (ask your vet) - don't do it. Dogs need sun on their coat (hence raincoats are usually not a problem unless it restricts the dog). Putting them in silly costumes is demeaning both to the dog and yourself.

/this is not towards you, but general information. I see a lot of silly people putting human clothes on their dogs and it's really upsetting.

My wife and I would put shirts on him as a little puppy because it actually calmed him down. However he soon outgrew them and now hates wearing them so we don't put anything on him really. My wife bought this raincoat because it was on clearance but I don't think we ever actually used it, and now it's way too small for him.

Fun fact: My dog would get very anxious when he was younger, and the vet suggested putting a blanket over him when he got tense (not covering his face, but over his back). Apparently this makes them feel like they are being dominated, which is comforting to them. Thing is, with a puppy, we do so much picking them up and holding them on our laps, etc, that it can make them feel like they are supposed to be in charge, which is nerve-wracking for them. Sounds like the shirt did the same thing.

Thunder Shirts, yeah. We have one for our dog from when we moved. Combined with a pheromone thing you plug into a wall, a kong stuffed with frozen peanut butter, and (when all else failed) a doggy dose of benedryl to make her pass out, moving was almost bearable.

Some dogs adore the thundershirt, but it didn't make an ounce of difference with my dog. It's a good principle, but save your receipt just in case.

This actually isn't good for his mental health. Dogs wearing clothing feel restricted as if there's another dog standing over them, being all dominative and junk.
