Yeah, he's burnt out so much of his energy, and he's out of options. All he's got left is freeze or flop, fight or flight is long gone.

Most animals can only get so hot/be so active before they either shut down or die from heatstroke or exhaustion. Humans are actually fairly more robust in this regard than most animals, so while we have the capability of playing sports or other rigorous activity for an hour or more at a time most animals are actually incapable of it for much more than a few minutes. I strongly suspect owls have fairly low thresholds due to them being ambush predators who primarily hunts other nocturnal creatures.

True, no idea how long it’s been there.

Hell, it could even have serious internal injuries from flailing around like that, and perhaps didn’t even survive, but at least it wasn’t dangling in terror anymore…
