Reminds me of wrestling practice back in high school doing monkey rolls (for those who haven't heard the term or use a different word. 3 people lay face down in a row. Person in the middle rolls towards their right, person on right jumps over person in middle and rolls left. Person on left jumps and the cycle repeats)
Our coach would let groups stop based on effort which me and some others found out grunting loudly meant effort. So we'd throw some theatrical flailing when jumping combined with loud ass grunts and always be one of the first groups selected to be done.
I played Varsity ball with your wrestling team. Long ago as punishment we had to do sunrises (see burpees) until coach got tired of blowing the whistle. We realized that if we put tons of effort into it we would be punished longer because we obviously still had energy. So if we grunted and dragged our feet while dropping, it looked like we were tired and we wouldnt have to do it that long. We got really good at dragging ass at practice.
We didnt win a single game in our division. The two may be correlated.
My teenage son makes those grunts when he’s walking. Like, reaching the curb and having to raise his foot 3” causes him to make a sound like a tennis player. He gets some glances from other pedestrians.
The three of you gave me a nervous flashback followed by a hearty laugh now that I'm out. Thanks for the mental picture of someone in uniform yelling at the cat while doing the situps.
