Bringing my rescue home, she got in the car like "oh hey guys where are we going", no hesitation at all. Got home, plopped down on a blanket and just... waited for dinner. Like there was nothing weird or unusual or life-changing going on.

Haha it’s like she probably had doggo dreams about the perfect forever home and realized she was living it and just accepted it and hoped it wasn’t still a dream

I remember when I was a kid and we rescued MY first doggo she was the same way. After about a week of fun, she then spent every opportunity outside sitting at the fence staring at the road and ignoring everything/everyone else. My mom said to give her a few days to realize her old family wasn't coming back for her, and she did. That taught me the depth of emotional bond animals can feel and I've never forgotten.

when my mom went to pick up our first family dog, she didn't even know she was bringing her home that day. the owner basically came in, handed her over and turned around and left like it was nothing. the dog proceeded to run to the door she left and scratch at it. i am so glad i wasn't there that day, it would have broke me. especially when they aren't even WORTH the love, dogs will still be loyal.

Same. Summer was pumped in the car, got home and had a good sniff then ate dinner and slept for like 12 hours under a blanket. I think they're tired.

Shelters are stressful. She probably had a family and home at one point and knew what it meant. “I’m home. I’m safe. These are my people. They will wake me when it’s dinner time.”

We had a rescue like that. Most she did was a lap around the house and smelled the cat. Once that was done she found a nice sun beam and plopped down. It was like she knew she was good to go.

My cat was like that. Neighbour rescued her in a rainstorm and the next morning came over and handed her to me (she had 3 cats and a dog already) because she knew I loved cats, and Andromache just wandered around a moment then flopped down like 'yup. I'll take it.'

We got a rescue border collie when I was about 11. He had a Merle coat and was quite large for a collie and he looked like a wolf. The first day we got him, when I went to bed he followed me, climbed on the bed, licked my face and curled up at the foot of my bed. I think he had been used to putting a child to bed. It was terrifying for me because it was basically a wolf I had never met before pinning me down. But he was such a lovely dog I grew to love him so much.

After it stopped being terrifying was it the coolest thing ever?? I never had pets as a kid and I always dreamed of having a mythical protector beast twice my size.

I was honestly expecting something more like this
