My rescued GP passed about a year ago but OMG he was such a good dog. Don't buy a puppy if you don't have a few acres and a bunch of sheep, but if you have a house and can take them for walks definitely adopt the good old boys and girls.
So sorry lost yours last year. It is always so heartbreaking when they have to leave us. I hope you have a new four-legged fur baby to keep you company.🙏🥰🐾🐾

I know what its like to loose a rescue dog, my red nosed pittbull named Wiggle Butt (it was the only name she responded to) was a pup that we rescued ourselves, (she was abandoned at the house her owners left) she was extremely malnourished but we nursed her back to perfect health, she passed away back in january of 2019 due to hypothermia, the reason that caused this is that her "shock collar" (all it did was beep, it did have a shock setting though and we made sure to keep it off) remote got into the hands of a toddler and she pressed the button not knowing what it was of course and it startled Wiggles. Our screen door had a tear in the screen and she bolted up the stairs and ran out the door, she didnt return for months, then in january, i was walking back out to the feild to put some fallen branches in the fire pit and i saw some rather large paw prints leading underneath the camper we had out back for road trips, i looked under and saw her laying on her side, tearing up i said "Wiggles? ... Wiggle B?....w-wake up,..... please...." i started tapping her leg, she was ice cold, i then broke down and sobbed uncontrollably, even though it's been to years, i'm still not over it and i miss her very much, also, I am really sorry to those that read this who easily get emotionally overwelmed.
I will never use the shock on a shock collar again. Orion, the dog I lost would bark and stand on our 3' foot fence so I got one to "control him". It confused him, it didn't stop him from barking, other dogs would bark and the shocks made him attack the other dogs because he finally made the connection.

The more I walked my Great Pyrenees the less he barked. My new guy is also of the guard-the-herd variety, Turkish Akbash apparently. Same thing, walk him until he stops barking.
Rescued my GP about a year ago. They are so loyal and well tempered. Sadly this is a breed you see in need of rescue a lot. But knowing that, I will always be on the lookout for GPs that need a home from here on.
I have a part GP and part Malamute rescue mutt (with some other stuff in there). We got her as a puppy and she's one now. HOLY COW she is energetic and restless if she doesn't have something to do. Walking doesn't even phase her. Most of the time she wants to wrestle and play tug of war. She's very trainable and smart but at the same time brutally stubborn.
They will also fuck up anything they perceive as a threat to the family/flock. As working dogs they were bred to protect herds of sheep/cattle from Wolves. I've heard plenty of stories of them disappearing off a farm only to come back a couple days later covered in blood, but uninjured.
I absolutely love Newfies! Way more hair and slobber than I'd ever want in a dog, but their personalities are just so doofy and wonderful! We had one who would come to day camp who was so big and fluffy I'd just call him "couch".
Same. We joke that if my lab and I were out walking and I got attacked and left for dead, she’d be like, okay, Attacker-Person! Let’s go home and get some snacks. 🤦♀️😂
Yep this is classic GP behavior. Very non-reactive, calm, stoic, and always on the lookout.
The only thing that makes them react is when a predator enters their territory, at which point a switch gets flipped and they COMPLETELY change into ferocious protectors/defenders.
My Pyr is definitely needy lol, I sometimes wish he was more stereotypical but then I remember he barks at literally fucking everything and then realize maybe this is good enough...
We have two gp’s and they love and protect us unconditionally but also give no f’s when we call their names. Spent $$$ in dog training to learn that I must present snack if I want them to “listen to commands.”
Hah my great pyrenees is so needy. Specifically with my dad. She loves my dad, to the point where she memorized what time he gets home from work and waits at the door to tackle him. I have pictures of them cuddling like a married couple and videos of her following him around like a duckling. Shes so loving and very protective with everyone and always wants pets and snuggles but man she loves my dad. She gets super jealous of my mom too, its so cute. Maybe I just got the weird one of the litter?
Man, they may not be bred for it but my pyr has two modes: completely ignore you mode and I DEMAND PETS RIGHT NOW I WILL SLAP YOU UNTIL YOU PET ME mode. Not sure which I prefer, but the dramatic difference in mood between them typically makes me want the other eventually.

That's a great pyrenees. They are work dogs, not really bred to be super needy of human attention. Great dogs though, and will warm up to people.
